AMERICANA FROM LONDON, DUBLIN AND OKLAHOMA FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY
FEATURING YNGVE AND THE INNOCENT, MATT STANSBERRY, BRANTLEY COWAN AND DEADONMUSIC DJS
22 NOVEMBER 2009, McHUGHS BAR, 29-31 QUEENS SQUARE, BELFAST, NORTHERN IRELAND
Yngve and the Innocent feature the German born Irish songwriting talent of Yngve Wieland and his band of Ned Cartwright, Palmi Gunnlaugur Hjaltason and brother Damien Wieland live as well as the 'Space to be Yourself Collective' on record. Yngve (pronounced Ing-vuh) started out solo in 2004 and since then has shared the stage with Paul Weller, Nina Hynes and Jape amongst others. In 2008 he released his debut full length album "Tell Men This" to critical acclaim from Jump.ie and Hot Press Magazine.
The band are currently touring the UK and Ireland taking their folk and country tunes on the road and spreading the word with a set of alternative folk tunes from a more traditional background along with the individuality of ideas from the collective with themes of love, loss and innocence with a healthy dose of Dublin cynicism.
Since relocating to London, the band have gone from strength to strength with shows in the Brixton Windmill and a four week residency in the George Tavern and this show will be a stripped down acoustic affair as a warm up to the Irish leg of their tour which will also take in Waterford, Dundalk and Dublin.
The "Let The Peasants Be Kings" tour features the double talent of musicians and songwriters Matt Stansberry and Brantley Cowan from Oklahoma. Matt and his band have been relentlessly touring and gigging across the mid-west through Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas and taking on a sold out tour of Japan in 2008. Brantley is the son of a DJ and music producer from deep in Oklahoma with a grandfather who would sing old western traditional hymns and infused the young Brantley Cowan with a love for music. He's a muli-instrumentalist and gifted songwriter equally at home on piano, guitar or saxophone. This tour sees the duo take their solo tunes on the road throughout Europe with shows in Germany, the UK and Ireland.
Matt Stansberry has been working on a brand new EP entitled Self Portrait which sees a deeper, more matured side to his songwriting putting him at his most comfortable with a good tune and an acoustic guitar to hand. Brantley is lead vocalist and guitarist of the successful Modern Rock Diaries and has taken his unique style of indie-rock fused with his traditional roots music throughout the mid-west and to the SXSW festival. He is currently building on this success with the release of his EP and a hectic touring regime.
Make sure to catch these artists along with local support on a rare appearance in Belfast on what will be a wonderful night of acoustic, folk and Americana.
After their superb performance as a full band last week we can confirm that an acoustic Louisiana Joyride will provide support for these great touring bands. Tickets still on sale from wegottickets and on the door.
