I'm away to Dubrovnik for a bit, then Mostar. Any of you guys ever been? Any tips, recommendations or rock heads ups greatly appreciated. ta.

It's a long time since I was there (before the wars), but I loved both places. Dubrovnik city is very quaint and picturesque, but if you can get out and about along the coast, there's also some of the best coast road scenery you could imagine.

Mostar was like something out of Ottoman times, with a lot of people in traditional Moslem clothing, and an Eastern-style souk leading up to the ancient bridge. I don't know how much of that survives. Croatian artillery took out the bridge, although a new copy has been built.

As for advice, maybe a Basil Fawlty "don't mention the war"?

I was in both about 7 or 8 years ago
I mostly remember how both were clearly affected by the wars but Dubrovnik has been put completely back together, is lively, buzzy, beautiful and fun. Loads of nice places to eat. Lots of islands to visit right on your doorstep, like Lokrum. Was fairly affordable then too
Mostar looked like the war was still going on. Every other building was a shell with "Do not enter, unsafe structure" signs all over them and people begging everywhere. Also at the time apparently lots of parts of rural Bosnia were still covered with minefields. Lovely
Glad I went to both though
I realise there's not really any tips there. Sorry
