Best-selling author Michael Crichton has died in Los Angeles aged 66 after a "courageous and private battle against cancer", his family has said.
He penned Jurassic Park, as well as books like Congo and Disclosure, all of which were adapted into films.
His books have sold more than 150 million copies. He also created the long-running US hospital drama ER.
"He will be profoundly missed by those whose lives he touched," his family said in a statement.
A private funeral service is expected.
Crichton is survived by wife Sherri and daughter Taylor....[/quote:ef4f1f96b4]
Pity the fucker didn't live long enough to find out that global warming isn't a conspiracy.
I wonder what sort of cancer. Surely not lung cancer, which, of course, is not caused by breathing cigarette smoke.
Sweeny, do you just sit around trapsing across the net waiting for word that someone has died so you can post it up here? Just wondering, like. :D
why are all my favourite authors dying? first david gemmell, now chrichton. watch out john connolly.

seems that way.
Sad news, but hopefully his remains will be fossilised in amber until a time in the future when Dickie Attenborough can clone him with a view to creating a theme park.
Aye but sure the Alien waits for those threads to pop up so he can say "Ach sure he was a cunt anyway" or something.

i was just gonna ask, sweeney, if you check celebrity obituaries for your daily dose of depressing news!!
rip to him.
Bit ominous that a millionaire American doctor can kick it of lung cancer in his mid-60s. If the incredibly rich, smart and well-connected can't beat the rap then there isn't much hope for the rest of us.
Crichton was a pretty strange author. He's written some of the best and worst books I've ever read, same with his films. [i:b53622b571]Jurassic Park [/i:b53622b571]was a fantastic novel, absolutely chilling and believeable. Then there was [i:b53622b571]The Lost World[/i:b53622b571], which is the only book I've ever thrown away in disgust.
[i:b53622b571]The Andromeda Strain [/i:b53622b571]is one of the greatest sci-fi films of all time, but then there's [i:b53622b571]Timeline[/i:b53622b571] (book and film) which was just unspeakably awful.
So, in summary - a bit of a mixed bag. RIP.
yes, but i think we can all agree that Congo is the Greatest Story Ever Told
Amy good girl
Indeed a 'double dunter' RIP Dave, for both Crichton and the long since departed Yul Brynner.
