For anyone planning to see them in the Olympia in Dublin, or elsewhere...

In short - Mike's got CT syndrome, smashed his guitar on-stage in a rage over it. Got some surgery so needs to recover. They reckon about 8-12 weeks healing time. So the European tour has been put off.

    I'm guessing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

The surgery for this is pretty fascinating, involving muscle being sliced open long-ways and stuff. Only four or five years ago this was viewed as extreme and elective-only surgery.

[quote:65320615bb]Carpal Tunnel, the last record to be released during his lifetime, documented his personal struggles to come to terms with the development of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in his right hand, which had rendered him unable to grip a plectrum (and in fact marked the onset of his motor neurone disease). Characteristically, he refused invasive surgery to treat his condition, instead being more "interested in finding ways to work around" this limitation. He chose to "relearn" guitar playing techniques by utilising his right thumb and index fingers to pluck the strings.[/quote:65320615bb]

Have been meaning to buy this album for ages. Am gonna go do it now...

Seeing that fellow play guitar live is mindblowing, he's incredibly talented. This is semi good news for me, now I may be able to figure out a way of getting to see them again after all.
