    My first post!
now why did i find the playlist all a little predictable#???
  11. avatar eskimos
An absolutely delightful playlist. I will wake up next saturday just to hear yr show. Wonderful.
  12. avatar EPK
You'll be on ATL in no time at all.
  13. avatar Mad Simon
Yes but, once you have played the Belfest CD, what will you do then?

Impressive reply time though, and nice picture!
  14. avatar Niall Harden
well, i've minidisc'd the other 2 C4 songs i have... need to get some more WWCG stuff but other than that the Belfest CD can go screw itself
i would still like lots of demos, or even copies of demos, to play, tho
  15. avatar retropunk
    My first post!
and what time does it start at and whattime is it over at?
and kan you even get it here in the wonderful county Tyrone?
  16. avatar BlimeyitsSimey
I couldn't pick it up at all! Kept getting some English radio station and the dregs of Radio One.

Cheers for playing Orb Niall, probably the first radio station to play unremixed Orb in years.
  17. avatar if i had money id buy a n
    My first post!
and he deserves a medal for playing low.
  18. avatar eskimos
He also deserves a medal for playing the velvet underground and mogwai, but low moreso. I got into low not very long ago, but they're clearly one of the best bands history records.
  19. avatar glzebub of four star
    My first post!
what about some godspeed you black emperror! as if you didn't need encouraging anyway niall.
oh and i know you're just dying to play that nickleback single too!!!
  20. avatar EPK
I've smashed my radio already, in case my children hear.
  21. avatar Mode Tetsu
    My first post!
Thank Christ you didn't play any Godspeed You Black Emperror!
    Seriously dull and over rated.
  22. avatar BioBaby xxx
r u lyndsay blairs wee brother? the drummer?
  23. avatar Mode Tetsu
    No, I'm not. Hmph.
    Someones asked me that before.
    I can't remember who though.
  24. avatar Niall Harden
no, he's michael blair's older brother.

right, now that yr all awake, go ake some tea......

    and toast......

and tune in to 100.6 at 11:00 to hear a mere hour ( :
) of local and all round ace moosic.
  25. avatar Niall Harden
and if anyone wants to know what **** are like, i'll be cheekily throwing in a recording at 11:30 or so, unintroduced. so, like, turn on, tune in, cop out, or sthg. should be fun.
  26. avatar eskimos
Niall, I couldn't pick up your broadcast. None of the radios in my house wants to hear it.
Nor does the car's. Anyway, what was your delightful playlist this week?
  27. avatar Niall Harden
Boards Of Canada - Music Is Math
Tracer AMC - A Satellite Wish
    Fallout - Nausea
    Feline Dream - Beachcomber
    Go Commando - Wow! Progress
    Kidd Dynamo - I Am A Landslide

Frank Black - St Francis Dam Disaster
    Orbital - The Box
    Asian Dub Foundation - Naxalite
Chemical Brothers - My Elastic Eye
    Arab Strap - Blackness
  28. avatar ClayPeterFace
    I couldn't get it either.

Bloody good playlist, though. I'm still amazed by music is math, the drums sound so ridiculously good.

How would one go about getting a demo to you niall?
  29. avatar Niall Harden
    any way you like.

i really do want as much as possible, anything anyone wants to give me, go right ahead, minidiscs, tapes, live shows, i will pay for EPs if i think they'll be any good ;-)
so if anyone wants played, give me an e-mail at
llain21@hotmail.com and i'll see what i can sort
  30. avatar Mode Tetsu
I'm never up in time on saturday to catch the show.
    Sounds alright though.
Music Is Math is definately the best song on that album.
The rest is very weak. Infact the albums a complete waste of time.
Perhaps some So Solid Crew on the next show. Haters. How would that go down?
  31. avatar retropunk
rite, mr niall how about giving us the name of the radio station so that we could tune in in say someday during the week and have it waiting for ur self to come on sat morning........coz its probably some classical music channel and then u come on and ppl may think nah thats not ur channel and go on bout thier business.....

....i dont kno wat im saying it would just be handy if u gave the name of the channel

and answer me, could you pick it up in the wonderful county of Tyrone???????

or is it just a belshaft thing??????
  32. avatar kungfumovies
what time doe sit go on air at? it looks pretty cool (well sounds cool in the case of radio)

  33. avatar Niall Harden
    northern visions radio, 100.6FM
    i think it's just belfastwide :-/
those cheeky alternative ulster types have a local show too, i dunno when it's on, but apparently they were playing "dancier" stuff than me... i'm on at 11:00 on sat mornings
  34. avatar kungfumovies
nah dont have that station is in the city of Lisburn!
cant get it on the net? can u?

  35. avatar Niall Harden
but everyone should really own everything i play anyway,
    or else they're not good.

  36. avatar kungfumovies
i hardly have any stuff by local bands
    (very @#%$ i know)
  37. avatar The Fires of Hell
Do you play anything local (anything submitted) or does it have to fall broadly in line with the stuff listed above?
  38. avatar Niall Harden
i will play any local music i like.
    this does not exclude metal.

anyway, what on earth do you mean, "in line with the stuff above"?!
  39. avatar kungfumovies
prob means the stuff u listed up above somewhere in thsi thread

  40. avatar the dirty weed
    i'm guessing niall knows that.
it's more than likely he's taking umbrage because it's assumed he'll only play one genre (whatever that is) of local music on his show.

  41. avatar NIMFwebmaster
    My first post!
Im not taking umbrage, just noting that the list does fall under a general stylistic umbrella.
  42. avatar the dirty weed
    aye, i know.

i was talking about niall :-)
  43. avatar Niall Harden
yes but tune in to 100.6FM at 11.00 to hear:
almost exactly the same local bands with different songs (i need demos y'all!)
and some much more varied "other stuff"

    it'll be good....
  44. avatar Niall Harden
well, it seems i'll nat be on till 11.15.

    some sport silliness, sorry ;-)

more local stuff than you can shake a stick at!
  47. avatar JonAftermath
Fuckin right they played some decent stuff, including us
  48. avatar Niall Harden
yes, that was the first i'd heard of you lot, very impressive.
i must have a werd with those alternative ulster types and see:
    a) what they did with ****'s money ;-)
and b) what local stuff they have / want to give me
  49. avatar retropunk
niall old buddy old pal, saturday morn is a bad time to have it coz i usually wake up on sat morn in somebody elses house and its impossible to find a radio!!!!!
especially with a bad kase of a hangover
  50. avatar Niall Harden
to clarify, it wasn't *really* ****'s money at all,
in that it was a benefit gig to which and from which we had to get taxis, without a word of thanks from anyone except Pete Jez...

i feel kinda guilty about dragging up this thread *again* but if it's annoying any moderators, feel free to lock it and i'll never mention Radio Niall again, which will be on air (hopefully) at 11:00 around the Belfast area on 100.6FM, and will feature a much more varied mix of moosic than *ever*...
and i urge anyone who wants their stuff played to e-mail me.
  51. avatar wyldscallions
    My first post!
    100 POINT 6 FM!!!

I think I was listening to Energy 106.

  52. avatar fastfude
no problems with advertising the show Niall, but I've just spent the last 30 minutes poking at my radio trying to get the f*cker to stay on 100.6. It's got this annoying search thing that gravitates to the strongest nearby signal, and I can't manually pin it to your show
  53. avatar wyldscallions
Pump up the volume y'all. PK are one the radio.

One the radio? I mean on of course. And it's over now. Edited by: wyldscallions at: 3/30/02 1:06:06 pm

    family, eh?
  56. avatar Niall Harden
Fallout, Go Commando, Tracer AMC, the Feline Dream and Panda Kopanda have all deservedly had three plays. had i minidisc'd the Clone Quartet MP3s, they'd have had three as well. ho hum.
  57. avatar fastfude
Out of idle curiosity, do you get any manner of listener ratings for the station Niall? Or specifically for your show? 'twould be innaresting to see how many choon in

Ps cant pick up your station round here, how close to belfast do you need to be to hear it?

where did i say i didn't like Die Laughing (which surely is what it's called on the Energy Fields CD?)?
  63. avatar Niall Harden
i deeply suspect listener numbers are in double figures :-/
still, momentum will gather, i have had people comment on it,
and a lot of emails. it'd be nice if it could be heard outside belfast tho :-/

Hey, although I can never seem to get a good enough reception to listen to Niall's show, I'd like to know what he's playing. He's playing very alternative music that would rarely be heard on radio. I commend him. Every time he adds to this thread I give it a wee read.

    So there.

And I can't understand the benefit of typing "neway" rather than "anyway".

I'm baffled. Really baffled. But anyways.

I don't watch Big Brother, but I don't nag at "everything" either.

I was just expressing my confusion. I didn't make any personal jibes, didn't really give anyone any stick.

    "Poof"? Eh?

    Honestly, some people...

    My first post!
is this not a local music discussion board? local radio? local music? nah!

keep this thread open, if i could listen i most definitely would, the man plays local bands on the radio, ie he's doing a very good thing and it interests me.
    keep it up niall.
  109. avatar Niall Harden
    well, the people have spoken.
    er, both of them...

the show's on as we speak, twill be repeated throughout the week at various times.
you should tune in to NVR anyway though, there's actually some really quality stuff on, er, sometimes :-)

    www.northernvisions.org/radio for details.

quality stuff was also to be had last night in Morrison's at TheeTooWan,
where i did my first ever proper DJ set :-)
not really anyone danced, like, but sure, twas a fun night, and Steven "Terra3" Quinn got the "crowds" "werking".
colin campbell also sportingly played to about 4 people

anyway, it's on again next week, i'm damn sure i'm going!

my dj set was not a million miles from the following, which is today's radio playlist:

Vovograd - Robots Have Implanted A Chip In My Brain
    Radiohead - Idioteque
    Sackville - 4 Alarm Fire
    The Evangelists - Microwave Man

And ****'s Anaconda (the george w. bush song) Hurrah!
  111. avatar dirty stevie smitty
Niall, once the new Dirty Steive is done and dusted, any chance you will play it? Straight after Tracer would be nice.
  112. avatar BlimeyitsSimey
I can't pick it up either, which is a shame cos the setlists have all been brilliant. You should record the shows Niall and get them onto CD.
  113. avatar Ooopsapocalypse
    I have one question!!!!!
Are there any plans to increase
the output of this radio show
    cause i'm either insanely jealous
of not hearin' it or fed up readin'
    about it!!!!
    Info please Niall!!!
    (non bitchy,just curious cause me
    no hear!!!!!)

what i like 2 do is download nialls playlists off the net and play them back. BUT! Theres a twist! i wear my niall harden paper face and a comical wig and pretend i'm him! I always feel dead cool when im being Niall and I stroke my chin thoughtfully alot.

The stupid chuckies on before him talked over most of "our" track.

They seemed to use the belfest CD as background music on the previous programme, which seemed a bit strange. Unless Niall was mucking about.

And then there was another chuckie on afterwards who played a song about the marching season. Which was class.

An enjoyable morning, plus I got a good reception.
  116. avatar Niall Harden
well as promised, the last show before the break there went a little like this:
    Panda Kopanda: Whore
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion: Sweet And Sour

    Mudhoney: Touch Me I'm Sick

    PJ Harvey: Kamikaze
    ****: Anaconda
    Death In Vegas: Dirge
    Kidd Dynamo: New Space
    Corrigan: Astroman
Yo La Tengo: Night Falls In Hoboken (all of it!)

Radio Niall (or "The Alternative With Niall Harden") returns on saturday at 11am! with a "report" on Witnness (in that i might blather about it for a while) and some, er, songs. i guess.
  117. avatar Niall Harden

OK, dragging this up again, lest i start another thread....

this morning at 11am tune to 100.6FM to hear funtastic local music including pleasing newness from DRAT, Guided* and Zerotonin, and as well as that, good music and things.
Er, then next saturday fastfude exile feline1 takes to the studio and spins some discs,
then the saturday after that it's a special show, with everything being girly as fook. think Bis, Helium, Sleater-Kinney, Hole, er... other stuff with girls singing, ummm, yes. and then the week after that it's acoustic tastic. and the week after that it's The Really Bad Music Show, where i play the most criminally poor things i can find in my rekkerd collection. should be good for a laugh.
  126. avatar fastfude
eh. we tried again to tune in today, but just about made out the Flaming Lips over a sea of static and the reception got steadily worse. gah! oh, for a clear signal!
  127. avatar fastfude

  133. avatar Niall Harden

  140. avatar mousse tache
I've just sat and gone thru all 7 pages of this thread and throughout all the listings i haven't seen 1 Rodan or 1 Dangerfields song!!!! Any reason why? Just curious as both are local and this seems to be what you're promoting :)
  141. avatar Andrew
You should know by now that The Dangerfields aren't a proper band, Astrid! ;)
  142. avatar mousse tache
So I've been hallucinating for over the past year or more?

  143. avatar Alternative Ulster
We play Yakuza on the Alternative Ulster show on a fairly regular basis, in fact, if you like them that much and if Yakuza are up for it we could get the guys onto the show for a special.
  144. avatar Niall Harden
i've played them two or three times but to be honest, i hate the sound of that demo, i wanna record them and make them beautiful. as for the no rodan etc, i'm fairly sure i did play rodan once. and i don't own any DF's music. so
  145. avatar Ronan Yakuza
Well you can bury the demo when the 7" comes out, can you play rekkids in the good ship Northern Visions? No? No problem, promo CD-Rs for all who need 'em.

    My first post!
its a wonder how uncool me and gaz from biobady can make a place be, for example little poor niall with his rather large cool hair cut had decided he would have a 'cool' nite of things, being that of watchin some singer song writers in the arcadia on friday nite. but to his gobsmack mind of things, that being 'im to cool for the rest of u little ones,' he seen me and gaz and before u could say the dangerfields r the best punk band in northern ireland little niall was gone screamin 'this place has gone down hill lately'.

anyway if any one is interest in living with the rather cool connnor and gaz for hair standing 125 pounds a month on the lisburn road email me

it had drum solos and *everything* :-)
  150. avatar Niall Harden
anyway, what was that i was saying about a radio show?
with an exciting live guest and *everything*?

    i believe so!
  151. avatar Niall Harden
    and replying to myself *again*,
i'd like to point out that on the 21st of september, we'll have had a complete set of felines on the show, in that Feline "Nick Carlisle" 2 will grace yr airwaves that day.

  152. avatar EPK
At the risk of being troublesome, I'd contend that the Jazz Night in the John Hewitt is a racket. It's driven me out several times.
  153. avatar Niall Harden
at the risk of making Radio Niall the biggest thread on fastfude again,
    i'd disagree.

    i thought it was pleasing.
    and it was free.
  154. avatar EPK
Free's good. Free and entertaining's better.
I just think that the sound of five people all playing different things for several hours numbs the brain and if I stayed, might incite me to violence involving wind instruments.
  155. avatar Niall Harden
did you see a different band?!

the sound was spot on, and the playing was too.

i don't normally even like jazz

Many thanks to Chief Shoe-Gazer Alex, who played our wee tune. I bet sat in nicely alongside all the 3 hour solo's and strange noises of the other tunes.
  247. avatar we love records
I think the only tune with a solo was the pj harvey one; most of the songs were less than 2 minutes longThe only long one was rachel's which was 14 minutes though I doubt dirty stevie would "get" what the rachel's are doing... Full on Night, maybe the best song of the show I think.

  248. avatar dirty stevie smitty
You know what Alex, your right we would'nt get what Rachel is on about. But cheers anyway.
  249. avatar we love records
    Rachel's are a classical "band".
Not quite 3 chords and a hook line that the kids will sing just cause it makes them feel cool.

If you are interested you can download some music from each of their 5 albums at the rachel's page on the southern website:

    Hope you like it!

  250. avatar Dirty Stevie Grizz
the songs wouldn't load in my real player. Shame

But 18 minutes like? You could listen to about 5 proper songs in that time!!
  251. avatar we love records
I'll make you a compilation cd that'll be either the songs that I played on the show or a more expanded selection from a few of the artists that were played.

Niall, i was just thinking of a cool wee slot you could do on your show. It may be abit hard to do but it would be cool, top 10 or whatever local charts, all local releases would be in it, new releases would be a new entry. If there was a way round it, it would be worth thinking of ;)
