Biography

Arora formed in 1994 in Hazelwood College under the name of Jaystrip. Their first public performance as a four-piece was on November 1995 in the Duke of York with The Cheese Junkies and Poultice. They played a number of other gigs in the Duke of York and The Front Page, often sharing billing with Poultice .

In the Autumn of 1996 they added guitarist Steven Cunningham to their ranks. The band name was also changed from Jaystrip to Arora because they were fed up having to explain what it meant and because no-one ever pronounced it correctly.

After an extended hiatus in 1997 they began gigging again in early 1998, often headlining in Katy Daly's. In the summer of 1998 they released their first CD 'Welcome To The Old World'. Recorded over the previous six months at Doghouse Studios, an abandoned school and at various people's houses; it was not a huge success.

In the winter of 1998 after performing a gig in Katy Daly's with Lowend they were approached by Virgin Records, but the band split before a deal could be brokered.

Drummer Colm moved to England and formed breakbeat/new age band Deep Sound Channel. Bassist Aidan formed funk rock outfit Gecko with guitarist Steve and later played with Christian rock band Clay, while Guitarist Chris Joined Smokin Arizona in the late nineties, resurfacing later as guitarist for Sparks Fly.
