Amaranth

Amaranth are a four piece from Derry which is in the north west of Ireland. Brothers Mark and Ryan formed the band mid/end of 2004. With the recruitment of Stephen Hamilton on drums all they needed was a bassist. Easier said than done. The band went through a couple bass players before Johnny Scott joined them at the end of 2005 , Johnny, a good friend of Stephen was the obvious choice having played in a band with Stephen already. Amaranth have been playing mainly in Derry, the highlight so far, supporting The Zutons and the Ordinary Boys in 2004 basically months after they formed. Honestly, the band probably weren't ready for these gigs but they played on and went down a storm. The band took a bit of time out in 2005 - start of 2006 to go over the set with Johnny and strengthen and tighten up any songs that they felt needed tightening. They went to work and planned to record an EP at the end of April 2006. Recording their new EP "Speaker Killer " with Neal Colderwood at manor park studio was great experience for the band. Having never worked in a studio for any length of time before it gave them a better understanding of their sound. The bands aim now is to practise and take to the road to promote their music and see what the people of Ireland (in the short term) think of Speaker Killer and the rest of the world (in the long term) think of Amaranth. Fingers crossed eh ?
