Biography
In the spring of '07 two alt-folk turbo-troubadours collided at full speed in the halls of Queen's University Belfast. Albrecht's Pencil emerged from the wreckage. They now write and perform their very own music, mostly with larynges and guitars, occasionally (and increasingly) with cavaquinho, tongue drum, glockenspiel, whipcrack, hang, violoncello, wind up radio, tam-tam, etc. Their 5-track debut EP, cunningly entitled "Extended Play", was recorded late one winter night in QUB's McMordie Hall, and released in March 08. This album can be bought by thwacking the links hiding somewhere on this page. A reasonably motley B-sides compilation album "Ekes From The Creel" was released in April 09, available on request (while stocks last). The trio (cellist Laura McGrogan joined the melee some time during 2008) are currently working on material for their first full-length album, title TBC, to be released sometime this summer.
In addition to their more conventional musical performances (both at home and further afield), AP have recently been rejuvinating some highly alternative performance spaces, including an abandoned flax mill and a palm house. See our new-ish blog for detailed prose and evocative imagery. We'll see you when you least expect it...
Albrecht's Pencil should be enjoyed as part of a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
