Fastfudeward 50 years into the future. After 40 years as an icon for millions you are leaving rehab for the last time having faced all of your demons. You are looking forward to the release of the box set of your hit albums when you are unluckily decapitated by a runaway hover sled. News flashes start appearing on all the TV channels.............

"Word is reaching us that (your name) has been killed in a freak accident. In a career that has had as many staggering highs as it has had world beating lows I think I speak for us all when I say that today we have lost one of rock's last great characters. When interviewed recently (s)he said that (s)he would most like to be remembered for these words from a song that we all know well and (s)he considered to be his/her finest work.................."

Well? Anyone out there written anything then sat back and said "You know, that's not bad at all. I'm proud to say this is mine"

some of what your drinking please.

i think everyone is proud of everything that they would play in fornt of/let public hear.

    but

speaking of words after people died....the best thing i ever saw was spike milligans gravestone.

    Here lies Spike Milligan.....

"I told you I was ill."
  3. avatar LittlrockAx
Stone cold man, just bored. Spike Milligan aside. What would it say on yours?

"If your seein her tonight, tell her that I said goodbye
so long, so long and tell her that i wish her all the best
I hope that she remembers me
but not the way that I could be
cos I am young and stupid, I have gone and thrown it all

Walk on, through the darkest night
walk on, through the lonely times
walk on, set your face like flint
    walk on, walk on.

Promise not to break her heart, i tell ya
    its my favourite part
of her its delicate, like only she could ever be
and when your laying late at night
and her hair gets in your eyes
just breathe her in and pray that angels will watch over her.

Walk on, through the darkest night
Walk on, through the lonely times
walk on, set your face like flint,
    walk on, walk on"

Hackneyed maybe but singin those words every night during a bit of a rough patch kept me sane and I know quite a few people have used it in the same way. Not to everyones taste, but generally my stuff is only for the perpetually broken hearted and/or sentimentally drunk. :-)

edit..lol maybe not an obituary, a bit to big for a gravestone (except maybe the chorus). Was more an answer to somethin lyrically Im proud of.

    does anyone else smell that?

    Good thread!

Here's mine:"Here burns a sh*t hot drummer whose just hit a dead beat!"

Nice Gaz. I knew someone would have the nads to put something up. It was initially about lyrics, but hey who am I to put the dampners on the whole gravestone thing. Anyway 50 years from now you may well have a small screen above the old plot that perpetually scrolls your favourite lyric or recording!!

I'm the same in some respects. I write better when the subject matter is a tad blue. I like these.

    Cold plastic chair
    Gleam off the floor
    Nobody there
    Suitcases stored
    Smile, act as if though
    It's ok that you go
    Smile, I'm ok
    That I have to stay

    Just wave, just wave goodbye
    Smile on your face
    Tear in your eye
    Just wave goodbye

    Engines are go
    Portal of you
    Flies by my face
    Into the blue
    Back to the car
    Touching your kiss
    Wishing afar
    Is empty like this

I don't see what is so cringeworthy about it huggy baps. Obviously if it's not your cup of tea then by all means don't participate. I suppose your best form of defense is attack.

People go on at length on this forum about which guitar or combination of pedals and effects, which amp or drums to buy. I just thought it might be a change to hear from those whose input to their (or their band's) music is more than instrumentation.

If nothing else the gravestone angle has given me quite a few laughs (thanks everyone). So, go on, lighten up. I dare ye!

THere's what id want to write

    'thoughts on the way here.....

The fresh morning rain washed away the reminents of the weekend past, leaving no evidence of it's existance.

The pools of water on the pavement acted as mirrors, reflecting the wet grey sky onto the wet grey sidewalk. The overall effect was far from impressive.

It's amazing how much attention we waste on things that don't matter. So much so that I'm surprised I have the time to get out of bed in the morning.'
