There's a bit of a barrier in posting new topics - the option to 'post a new topic' doesn't appear until you are viewing a specific category on the forum. It would be nice to get the option from the homepage of the site, maybe either:

    * Add a "Post a new topic" link in the left hand sidebar on the homepage that linked to post a new topic in the 'General' category by default
    * Add a "Post a new topic" link in the left hand sidebar on the homepage that linked to a landing page where you can pick what part of the forum you would like to post to (I know this is trickier)
    * Add constant links in the left hand side bar which let you post a new topic in any category - something like:

Post new topic in General

Post new topic in Band News

Post new topic in Gigs

Post new topic in Market

etc...?

i think theres a barrier for a reason with the amount of shite that gets talked on here.

lol, true, but surely the solution to dampen out the voice of a few arse bandits shouldn't be to make the site more difficult to use for everyone else?

I don't think it's particularly hard. Once you figure it out the first time you don't really think about it.
Plus it makes it mandatory to catagorise your posts into the seperate sections.

Agreed it's good to make sure things are categorised, although I'm certain posting could be made easier for new users.

Meh, just bugs me I guess

An even bigger issue in terms of posting is the fact that the post a reply box is available even when you're not logged in. So you post a great reply, click submit, and then you find you have to log-in and you've lost your post. Wrecks the balls off me.

Annoying as hell. Found this out by accident though - if you use google chrome and that happens, just hit the back button in the browser, it remembers what you wrote :) only works in chrome though

That works in Firefox as well. Don't know about IE.

Yeah, it would be good to have some of these issues straightened out, but now that Fastfude is on the spambot hit list, it's probably a good time for a general overhaul of the posting rules.

[*:644b5542c4] There could be a quarantine period for newly-registered users where they have a more tightly limited number of posts, and can't open new topics.
[*:644b5542c4] New users could also be made to go through one of those bot-detection things that display randomly generated words as an image, and you have to type the words into a box when you log in.
[*:644b5542c4] The 10-post limit is annoying and over-restrictive when there's a good argument going on. Surely it could be relaxed or extended for established users.

Good points all, and I have a few of my own I've been wanting to implement. Soon, my pretties, soon.
