I have created a blog entry outlining the my top ten music videos of all time - you can read my views via the link below. I would be interested in hearing / seeing what other people look for in a music video. Cheers!

For some reason the videos that come to mind right now are the ones that scared me. 'Just' by Radiohead disturbed me terribly when I first saw it, convincing me that the secret the man knew was that the world was going to end.

'Windowlicker' by Aphex Twin surprised me. A friend and I saw it one night not knowing what it was and assuming it was a hip hop video [because of how it starts]. Then it started to go weird. Then the faces changed and I had to change the channel.

Of course I have Tonsillitis and am mildly high on painkillers right now so there's a chance that this post makes no sense.

Death In Vegas - Scorpio Rising. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wKaEdVPHvQ

Especially after about two and a half minutes in when it starts using the stop-motion effects.

Come To Daddy is good too. Not sure which is more disturbing.
Star Guitar by Chemical Brothers was really clever, Around The World by Daft Punk had a similar idea.
  10. avatar DuncanDisorderly
How much would you say being a fan of the band effects how much you like the video?

    Tonight, Tonight by Smashin Pumpkins...
  12. avatar Jameboat
Tool's videos rarely fail to impress me.
The first time i saw Schism i was drifting off to sleep in a room lit by only the tv. Creeped me out bigtime.

By the time I saw Come To Daddy I was forewarned, so switched off as soon as the TV screen started talking to the woman.

    I'm a bit chicken.

This. I remember showing my bro it just because I knew it'd scare the absolute shit outta him. It did.
Buddy Holly by Weezer and Coffee and TV by Blur are hard to beat too

Godley and Creme - 'Cry'. It was the same person throughout the video, who knew!
  16. avatar Deadlights
I think you can appreciate a good video as long as you dont completely dislike the artist, but loving them and the song paired with a top video always makes for greatness. Spike Jones stuff is gold, i'd recommend anyone to get his DVD - 'The Work of Director Spike Jonze' for a sample of some of his best, early foo fighters stuff was always magic too for the first 3 albums. Personally UNKLE - Rabbit In Your Headlights is one of my favs, powerful stuff indeed!

Party at ground zero by Fishbone is very good, it's a send up of Mask of the Red Death but during the cold war.

I have yet to see anything that comes close to the Beastie Boys' Sabotage video.

If you haven't seen it (and you probably have) - here's it.

Oh right, aye. I think the worst video I've seen is for Radiohead's Paranoid Android. It was a horrible putrid video with pointless sureal and disturbing imagery (albeit animated) that took away from the song in every regard. It was only after many listens away from the video that I learned to separate the two and was able to enjoy the song.
I don't really watch a lot of music television but I remember Busta Rhyme's Gimmie Some More video being particularly mental.

I thought that video was great - but then again I did watch the show Robin which the animation came from. Both the video and song are disturbing and work together (in my opinion!). Busta Rhymes has had a few great videos over the years.

Anything by Chris Cunningham or Jonathan Glazer, consistently amazing videos.
Also, "Do The Evolution" by Pearl Jam. Not an amazing song, but a killer video.
