    Seriously cannot wait.

Hope Argentina do better than they have been, however Maradonna is a massive knob.

I hope Ivory Coast are a big surprise and make it to the quarters at least!! Id like to see Zidane brought out at the opening ceremony, just to headbutt as many things as he can in a minute. Kinda similar to the bonus levels in the aul Streetfighter!!

Still hoping in an Ital double whammy, but probably will have to wait another 24 years for that to happen with Lippi who's probably going to select a shit team this year. Failing that, hope that Ghana turns out to be a surprise, fuck the Ivory Coast!

This is great, two shouts for the Ivory Coast already. I've been saying this for months and have been ridiculed by my so called friends. Not a cert by any means, but at 28/1, definately worth a couple of quid. Also fancy the dutch to do well.

Oh, I'm getting so excited, can't fucking wait. But in the mean time I'm away for a cold shower!!:023:

Fuck Henry and France, hope they dont get through the group stages! More annoyed about the whole seeded play off rule change thing tho! Sour grapes? Why yes!

Think England have a chance this time.

I hate the English press in the run up to World Cups, but I kinda personally hope that they do well, theyve a good team. My teams to watch are Germany, Ghana and Netherlands (the ultimate nearly-team). Also think that the USA could spring a surprise visit to the quarter finals, they're well organised and a few cracker players.
  9. avatar RadioWolf
I can't wait for it. My favourite teams are Portugal, South Africa and Netherlands.

I'd love to see England get kicked out at the group stages!

And i'm gonna go for Ivory Coast aswell, might aswell put a bet on with those odds.

No-one else just generally dislike football?
  11. avatar POSITIVExYOUTH
England has a decent team, but I think that suggestion that they could win it is perhaps a bit of a long-shot. As I say, it is a good team but it certainly not the best and we all know that during a World Cup we can and must expect some real surprises from the underdogs.
  12. avatar savagebilliards
I know I can expect some hangovers and lots of beaten bets!
  13. avatar whipchorus
Balls to the Ivory Coast. Their so called talisman is one Didier Drogba, a dislikeable figure at the best of times. In my day the plucky African upstart had one Roger Milla. This is one example of how football is horsewank in 2010.
  14. avatar whipchorus
Also, fuck the Netherlands, their status as the 'nearly man' and their 'second team' status to the neutral is cringeworthy. Their fans, who gather en masse dressed all in orange like they're heading to the Odyssey on a Saturday night, are almost as bad. Their sense of mopery dressed as 'entitlement' is horrible.

If you're gonna hark back to the good old days, when African football had Roger Milla rather than Didier Drogba (no contest), then you should remember the Dutch legends of the past- Cruyff, Johnny Repp, Bergkamp, Overmars, Seedorf, Gullit.. dozens of em, all the way up to the present day. I really think Holland do deserve to win- they've been shafted plenty of times in the past, and noone knows like the Irish how painful it is to take a shafting!
  19. avatar Smallsquare
Germany will win because England have a decent chance.
    Cameroon get to semis.
    America to quarters.

Football grumblers get with it, the World Cup isn't about football, it's about the world.
  20. avatar POSITIVExYOUTH
The Dutch might have been shafted once in a while, but they have also consistently produced some seriously poor squads in recent years. Let's face it, we won't see the Netherlands of Euro 2000 for another long time.
  21. avatar Danny Lynch
Surprisingly little mention of Spain... Personally I can't see past them or Italy. Maybe Argentina, but as has been said Maradona's a twat, and highly unpredictable. Veron instead of cambiasso? Likewise Brazil, traditionally they're favourites and especially due to their new found ability to defend...a bit, but you never know.
Holland are great to watch, but wont get too far, maybe 1/4s. Germany are one of those teams that are just always there.. you dont notice them all the way through, then suddenly theyre in the semis or the final.
Personally I'd love to see England get really far, semis maybe, then get absolutely destroyed by a proper footballing team. Or on penalties by Portugal or Argentina.. I'd really love that.
As for the french, they'll probably just surrender half way through
  22. avatar POSITIVExYOUTH
Ach, I don't think Italy will do that well at all. Lippi's team selection as it stands is appallingly bad. Some good players in there, but he left at home a lot of star players who, incidentally, also happen to be some of the best strikers we have available. Generally the feeling in Italy is that it's going to be difficult to do well and a lot of people seem to be disappointed in the squad selection.

But you never know, I suppose.
  23. avatar Danny Lynch
There's been a few shocker squad selections as far as I'm aware. Personally for me, Englands wingers are questionable.. for a long time I've wondered what Downing has to do to get himself in there. Not far behind him, Ashley Young.. an average season this time, but excellent the previous one, be a good sub to have. Both are more proven than adam johnson, have played more than lennon and walcott combined..
Hell I don't care, as long as they're shooting themselves in the foot.
  24. avatar reallybigmcc
i would have said spain were certs a few months ago, but most thier star players have been out of action for long spells recenlty. torres, iniesta, villa, fabregas. iniesta being out so long is a blow. if they get fully fit int ime they will be awesome! at the moment i cant see past brazil, now that they have learned actual tactics lol

To be honest I'm struggling to recall the legitimate shaftings the Dutch have actually incurred - for a population of 15 million I think some people expect more of them every time around, which simply is unrealistic. It was more of a case of that 70s team potentially overshadowing every Dutch team that could ever turn up since.
  26. avatar nicestmaninrock
Spain look sweet on paper but can they produce the form they did in the europeans 2 years ago?.

Anyone but the French. Id like to see the Australia (Socceroos) doing well as I felt bad about them getting cheated out of the last World Cup.

Ivory Coast only have Drogba who is hateful so fuckem. Chile as super outsiders afer some decent qualifiers but they have Spain in their group stages.

Argentina who were lucky to qualify but Messi is a goal scoring machine so lets see what happens. I think England will get overhyped by the british press and then get beaten in the 2nd round.
  27. avatar NumberBlack
As outsiders go I think Serbia will do well.

Also looking at Germany, Italy, Brazil.
  28. avatar salfhal
Added another to my adoptive teams, now Argentina, Spain and France, forgot about them dumping Ireland out of the qualifyers, they've got the heart to win by any means!

I'll be buying the 3 off here, if anyone wants a cheap shirt -

Seconded, t'will be a great month! 3 matches a day? Yes please!

So Mexico v SA, who do ya reckon?
  35. avatar ginxed
Would love to see South Africa get something from this game, but the smart money is on Mexico.

Mexico have been under-rated as a team for as long as I can remember. Sure they rarely have many global stars, but they play some great football.

Suarez. Cunt. There I said it.

How utterly against the rule and spirit of the game is it that Ghana went out last night? The message there is that hard work and skill is all well and good, but when it comes right down to it, cheat like a bastard and you'll get the prize.

I will however make allowance today for Maradona to sneak on to the pitch like an evil wrestling manager and break a chair over the keepers' head while the ref is distracted. Then make a huge melodramatic song and dance that requires the army to be deployed.
  42. avatar whipchorus
If a Northern Ireland player for example did exactly the same thing in exactly the same circumstances he'd never have to buy another drink in his life, true fact. Objectively Suarez is neither a hero or a villain, just the actions of someone in a very unique set of circumstances that would be repeated by almost all professional footballers on another day.
  43. avatar fastfude
And none of that justifies it one bit. Had it been an accidental ricochet off his arm, it'd suck but it's part of the game. This guy knowingly, wilfully games the system, and that stinks. Bad footballs.
  44. avatar Philip PAYOLA
Oh poor wee Ghana....should've just given them the trophy, 'cause "we're all Africans tonight", or somesuch garbage. If ye want a villain, blame the guy who hoofed their semi final place out of the stadium.

A Holland v Germany final would be tasty, and my pre tournament bet on the Dutch is looking a decent shout now, for a change.
  45. avatar T Entertainment
The utter humiliation of the revolting Maradona today was simply beautiful. It doesn't get much better than that.
