    I'm not by any stretch of the imagination a Metallica fan and I have to say that was immense! For sure one of the best gigs I've been to in a long long time. Go.

    It's got fire, lasers, beach balls and tons of audience participation. Even if you don't like the music what else would you be doing that would be better than that?
  5. avatar steviel
    Agreed, one of the best gigs I've been to in a good while. They really did pull out all the stops to make sure everyone had a good time (oh, and it was a good well balanced setlist. The best, IMO, of the new stuff and the classics)
  6. avatar Michael82FFL
    GO!!! and if you have a spare ticket I will gladly buy it of you, seated or standing!
  7. avatar The Donk
    As I was working the stage changeover etc I got to watch the show for free. Both supports were terrible in my opinion, but Metallica were awesome. I'm not a huge Metallica fan, but they put on a great show and stuck to the classics after the usual 3 songs from a new album. Master of puppets was easily the best of the bunch, but my favoutite thing of the whole night was watching two pissed up skinheads tear lumps out of one another over a fucking beach ball:lol: .
  8. avatar tinpot anto
    It was actually awesome.

    They were clearly loving every minute of it themselves, and pushing themselves to the limit in nearly every track. The mad off kilter newer stuff is exhiliarating live, and the classics were delivered with 100% commitment. Pure cheese too, but hey, that's metal!

    Fair play to them, definitely go if you have a chance.
  9. avatar spirit of division
    Did High On Fire play too? They're pretty good. Metallica are staying in the city centre so you might catch them shopping or doing tourist type things...
  10. avatar 10rapid
    I was wondering what they'd be up to today! Are they in the merchant?

    sorry but have to disagree....Volbeat were immense. I am not a Metallica fan by any means I was there with my 15 year old son (who is a Metallica fan) and I thought they were excellent...great laser show and light show and they looked as if they were enjoying it as well. BUT NO WHISKEY IN THE JAR !! Common lads sort it out!!

    Hetfield = Tom Waits
    Hammet = Weird Al/Cher
    Ulrich = Bill Bailey
    Trujillo = MACHETE

    That is hilarious! I'd have to say that Hetfield is still somewhat more grizzled than Waits and that Trujillo, whilst resembling Machete looks a lot like some kind of Minotaur.

    Definitely go! That was a cracker gig, Metallica were brilliant! Volbeat are terrible though..
  15. avatar whosbainejakey
    Unbelievable gig! So much better than Marlay Park last year, and certainly the best gig I've ever been to in The Odyssey. Great setlist and the band were clearly so into it they were a joy to watch.

    No Disposable Heroes or Trapped Under Ice but maybe they'll get dusted down tonight. Really like the new stuff live (I like the album too), particularly All Nightmare Long and Broken, Beat & Scarred.

    No way tonight will be as good but if you ain't in, you can't win.

    yeah pete, high on fire opened... i only caught about half their set, but it was awesome. Volbeat were absolutely terrible.

    in terms of performance, Metallica were on top form... the setlist on the other hand was trunks. forget "whiskey in the jar", where was "KILLING TIME"?!?!?!

    Superb show from Metallica.

    High on fire were decent.

    Volbeat are FUCKING TERRIBLE. I met their singer during Metallica's encore, seemed like a nice enough bloke, but their music is awful.

    Rough idea of stage times from last night?

    Got a ticket for tonight and only wanna see Metallica

    To be fair I thought Lars looked more like Dale Gribble, from King of the Hill. But yes, this was pretty amazing. Landed a spot in the top 5 gigs of all time...

    HARVESTOR!
    UNFORGIVEN
    THE FOUR HORSEMEN
    HIT THE LIGHTS.

    Sorry.
    but that was soooo good.

    Live recordings of both nights are available on Livemetallica.com or other more less-Lars endorsed sources.

    I have Tuesday if anyone wants it (on CD of course if they're lost their backup disk, because you know, you bought it).:lol:

    I cant believe how overrated metallica are.Why does nobody agree with me that they should have started and finished on "And Justice For All" ? They've sold out long time ago as did anyone who went to this gig

    Plenty of things, and if you dont like them, why would you contribute to their wages, you could have been helping me get a petition going for them to split
  30. avatar thebatgranny
    I didn't say I didn't like them, I said I wasn't a [i:256b09b9c0]fan[/i:256b09b9c0]. Sure Hetfield and Ulrich are dicks, but they have nearly thirty years experience of putting on concerts in massive venues and it shows. There hasn't been a band I've seen who can command an entire arena like that, so regardless of my personal opinions of the band members or the style of music they play, my hat goes of to them for what was a truly cracking gig.

    So the Black Album was shite?

    Of course Metallica are over-rated. I didn't go to the gig to see the best metal band on the planet, that'd be why i'm going to Cork in July to see Megadeth. I went for the show and to hear some of the old tunes.

    That old "sellout" garbage gets on my tits, clearly Lars is in it for the money... Who gives a shit? They can sell out the biggest arena we have in Northern Ireland 2 nights in a row, why would they choose to play in any other (smaller) venue?

    Metallica are the teeny bopper staple of today, accessable metal for youngins, if it in any way helps people get into the likes of Testament, Megadeth, SX etc then i'm happy enough with that. Everyone knows they're not to be taken seriously.

    Also; St Anger and Death Magnetic are shit albums, even Metallica know that.
