would anyone have one kicking about and be kind enough to burn me a copy? i lost mine in a move last year.
if creative weren't such a bunch of bastards they'd make it available for download on their site.
it's driving me up the christing wall!!!
the creative web site is absolutly useless. i've been checking it on and off since i've lost my installation cd almost a year ago. it only contains updates for the software and drivers, not the actual software or drivers themselves. and the zen stone drivers don't work for the zen touch anyway.
EDIT: I was going to point you at http://libnjb.sourceforge.net/ since the main page says it is supported on Windows, but there's no actual executables. You'd have to compile it yourself, so nerds only.
However, the drivers seem to be included in Creative's SDK (Software developer's kit). See http://connect.creativelabs.com/developer/Portable%20Devices/Forms/AllItems.aspx
I don't know if these are easily installable for the average user.
[quote:410ca1717c="leesub60"]no it's not. you need to have the original drivers from the cd installed before you can use any of those updated drivers.[/quote:410ca1717c]
it would be extremely uncommon for drivers to be required to upgrade drivers, as a driver is just telling the PC how to interact with the device, thus not dependant on other drivers*. i think what you may need is to upgrade the firmware on your zen so that it's 'plays-for-sure' compatible, then (as the site says) you will "Enjoy seamless support with any computer running Microsoft® Windows Media® Player 10 or 11 and Windows® XP - no drivers or software needed". Not sure if you can install the firmware without the drivers in place, but its worth a go.
If you're still having trouble it might be worth connecting it to a win7 PC and seeing if the device becomes reachable. Win7 is pretty good for resolving driver issues, making most effectively plug'n'play.
edit1: * not strictly true, but applicable to the simplification used.
edit2: maybe of help? http://www.mycreativefansite.com/2007/06/solution-windows-vista-cannot-recognise.html
i've downloaded and tried everything off the creative site at this point. nothing works.
that's why i'm asking if anyone has the actual cd and not "can anyone suggest something i've tried a million times before".
[quote:ef2779a36e="leesub60"]i can't update the firmware if the computer doesn't recognise the mp3 player is connected.
that would require ...*drum roll* the original drivers.[/quote:ef2779a36e]No, the device will still "announce" itself on the USB bus and the PC will know there's something there that needs drivers. I'm no Windows expert, but I'm pretty sure that if it doesn't show up, even as an "unknown device", in Device Manager then it's probably broken.
