    who are ya?

 don't worry i'm not being rude, just really damn nosey!!

i'm a kinda newbie to the site and after reading the nimic thread it sorta made me intrigued about the other users backgrounds, (although i know a few of you already, unfortunately ;) ).
sounds a bit gay like but as i can't find an "introduce yourself" thread, it would be quite useful to get a short background on you guys.

i may start the ball rolling then. i'm from antrim, i spent most of my time doing artist management, events and (really bad) journalism down in Dublin. i realised i wanted to work in the music industry, so i went to london to learn the tricks of the trade and i've been here the past three years studying and whoring myself out to music companies.

i realise i'll look like a complete tool if nobody responds to this so be nice and respond! :D

Hmm, what else.. I own about 10 guitars and at the minute I'm listening to a lot of john Mayer, Biffy Clyro, The Mars Volta and getting very into electronic music.

I hope to one day make a career out of music.

Fuck me this is the gayest thread ever.

OK, *rolls up sleeves *and foreskin* *

I'm Bill, I just turned 30 (fucking 30) and I love watching Malcolm Tucker bawling at anyone and everyone. Which is on my TV right now.

I moved here from England last year and formed a band called The Hubris - www.myspace.com/thehubrisband - we've been looking for a bassist to replace the excellent Mark for some time, Stew from Stone Free has just stepped up to the challenge.

I work in IT and work from home, which means I sit in bed with a laptop until about midday, at which point my lower back gets too sore so I move down to the table in the living room.

I also created the ever popular "Men Who Sit To Pee - UNITE!" group on Facebook. Also, if you do a search for "stupid looking drunk" on Youtube, I am the fourth return. Beat that, fuckers!

I'm 21 from Dromore, and a 2nd year Anthropology student at Queens. I've played bass and sang in a few bands over the years, most notably a shitty cover band. hello. i'm niall. my first gig was at a bob dylan tribute night in the duke of york. i worked in argos after i left school and spent all my pay on delay pedals and made some recordings as iden green, named after a place in england. we played some shows from 2002-2005 but to be honest it was not that special. sometimes i play folk songs and other silly things under that name.
i joined heliopause in 2006 as drummer and then learned how to play the drums a bit. we're still going but it's difficult because the singer lives in brighton now. i was in julip for a while and helped destroy tracer amc. i set up a record label and released albums by three tales and panda kopanda but i am not very good at persuading anyone to buy them and consequently don't really have the money or mental strength to release the heliopause album.

    Really VERY poor in general.

Regular gigs in Hagues, every so often some in the Island Center and that's pretty much it. Hagues is pretty usless, just a normal pub, so you're playing in the corner... But there's been some decent bands playing it, if i'm right in thinking SoNI do a night in there every so often.

Put off it after that dude was killed outside it.

Island Centre is rented out occasionally, but as far as I know, no promoter based events.

The Pipers Quay (can't remember the new name) has random gigs, mostly cover bands, but again shit venue generally.

We really need a proper live music bar a la Laverys Bunker or something, i'm sure there'd be a sustainable crowd for it as well.

I have a dream of getting the lease for the old curry's (huge place) for free, as it's been sitting empty for nearly 10 years now i'm sure, would make an epic venue (visions of Comrads in Waynes World).

This is of course never going to happen.

I'm Steve, a 27 year-old ginger bearded reprobate from Ballyclare, though I now live in Belfast. I knew nothing about how good the local music scene was until I saw Fighting With Wire in Lavery's several years ago. Needless to say my perspective changed that night, I resolved to go to as many local gigs as I could, and since have met a lot of you lovely people!

I have an IT degree from Queen's but am currently working in HMV (go figure).

Want :( I'd love there to be a place to put on all-ages gigs, that wasn't a church or IAC, purely because churches tend to put people off (in my experience :/). But you'd get people going "This place is no Oh Yeah!" Would absolutely love to do something like that in Lisburn, though. Either that or tell IAC to wise up, no wonder people are going to Belfast.

Claud: I volunteered with 'IAC Stars' in a bid to put on some bands in IAC for cheap, but they had one meeting (with me and one other girl) and then...stopped. Either they've given up or they've lost my details.

I am completely fucking ancient compared to most of you.

I currently sing and play guitar in Arctor
    www.myspace.com/wearearctor

We just played our first gig thursday there. We practise in Resonate studios, owned by our bassist Russell - top wee spot, top geezer.

    I also record electronic stuff:

    www.myspace.com/themegafonziesband

I have just got a singer for the electronic stuff but things move slowly these days..

I have too many guitars. Or not enough. I'm undecided.

I've also done a lot of session work (mainly brass) over the years, though not in the last 10 or so. I have been a music tutor for the BELB in the past. I have played in various competition brass/silver bands. I have played in jazz bands, brass bands, samba bands, rock bands, dance, reggae and on and on and on, you get the idea.

Music is, and always has been, a huge part of who I am.

To pay the bills I get paid to fuck with computers. I used to like doing that, but not so much anymore.

I have been around the block a couple of times ;) I come across as negative at times, but I am a realist and am also a jaded oul bastard. I've had a lot of optimism squashed out of me. I do *love* life though. It's a journey not a destination. Have a look round, take your shoes off and relax.

I'm also completely full of shite but at least I know it, lol.

Hi, I am Orla. I play guitar and sing in local band Louisiana Joyride, I also play solo stuff at the occasional singer/songwriter night. I love music, I always have. I am a prolific writer, there is always a new song in my head. I am a great believer in local music and I go to gigs as often as I can.

Favorite local bands: Swanne River, Jackson Cage, Delirium Tremens, Ten Gallon Hat, Here come the Landed Gentry, Grainne Duffy Band...

Favorite Venue: Pavilion - love it cos its where most bands start (but end up looking down their nose at). Personal favorite venue though is McHughs - (even though the PA blew on one side on our ep launch) Also quite like the small stage in the Menagerie.

Favorite Festival: If Witnness had never become Oxegen then it would have won hands down - does anyone else remember Witness? Anyways it manifested into an Orch-type war camp and i detest it, so Glasgowbury and Electric Picnic take top camping festivals and Open House Festival takes top city festival.

I spend my days doing a mixture of notetaking at queens, writing/recording/gigging and watching every tv show curcirca has to offer. Living the dream.
