Hi all, can anyone recommend a sound card and midi controller that I could use to DJ with Ableton? The cheaper the better I'm afraid, though obviously let me know what's good. I'm clueless really.

    Cheers!

You're probably looking for something like this. Prices go up to... well... two or three grand. But that'll do the basic job of cross-fading and such. As far as a sound card goes, if you really don't want to part with too much money you could see how it goes with your on-board sound. Phono to 1/8" stereo jack out from your card and into something like this, although that particular one is a bit on the pricey side.

There's not much to go wrong in MIDI controllers. It's generally just a question of how many features you want. Cheaper you go, more stuff you have to do in Ableton with a mouse, pretty much.

    Fado.

    I just recently purchaced a Behringer BCD3000

    http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/product/31196-behringer-b-control-deejay-bcd3000-.html

I am using it on My MAC with Traktor3 Pro, and have found no problems with it. Saying that i had a little difficulty getting the correct Midi map but got there in the end. Very reliable and from what i am aware of it also works with other software.

I would reccomend this to any one. One of the best things is it fits into my laptop bag so very portable. Traktor lets you hook up iPod's and external devices to play from.
