Led by local percussionist Steve Davis, Toy Army is a brilliant 'supergroup' comprised of a seven-piece collective of some of the UK and Europe’s leading jazz improvisers, alongside a septet of musicians from the School of Music at Queen’s University, Belfast.

Recently Steve Davis has been working with many of the world’s leading improvised jazz artists, including Evan Parker, Django Bates and Joe Morris. Excitingly, Toy Army is a first for him in terms of assembling an incredible band to play his music, rather than working as a sideman.

Featuring musicians from Germany (Ingrid Laubrock – saxophone), Ireland (Simon Jerman – bass / Justin Carroll – piano) and the UK (James Allsopp – saxophone / Tom Arthurs – trumpet / Alex Bonney – trumpet), Toy Army is a band brimming with a kind of vivacity and motion that is reminiscent of the music of Sun Ra or Cecil Taylor.
