    My first post!
    What's happened to this place?

Things seemed to be going well when it all started months back, and I thought it had the makings of an interesring venue, offering something a little bit different.

Now we have Karoke and Kenny Rodgers??!! The idiot who runs that place has turned it into a complete cheese and sleaze fest. Now the latest is that he has got rid of the two Sat night DJs, the only reputable night left in the place!!

    Well done you complete moron!

Fair play to DJ's Johnny and Mark from saturday night for getting out with their dignity intact because that place is a sinking ship of pure cheddar. I know I'll never set foot in the place again. :x

Just go up the street to Muriels, it's nice when it's not packed. Remember when the Elms became the Globe? Shocking!

Leave it alone! I like the cheese, I also like a place where there's a good chance I won't run into some of you numpty fucks.

The place has turned into a complete joke! The managment there are a shower of idiots who clearly didn't understand how good they could have had it with Johnny and Mark in there. Those guys did some of the best nights in Belfast at the lifeboat and then were good enough to put up with being asked to play Lady Ga-Ga and follow "nelly the elephant" on new years eve, purely out of decency and loyalty to those twats.

They're better off out of somewhere that boasts on their website at havin a collection or umbreallas and clocks to attract customers and calls an elevated Dj booth a feast for the eyes!

Fair play to them indeed , looking forward to seein what those guys get up to next. I herad the roost has a line dancing night is that true?

To be fair, Tom and Decci run a lovely wee session on Sunday nights in there - relaxed open-mic style but I've never been in any other night as the noise of awfullness put me off a few fridays ago.
  6. avatar stevieo
Sunday nights are excellent. Youve got Tom and Declan of Jackson Cage playing from 9 till late with lots of other players joining in or playing the interval. Theyve taken over, theres a good crowd every week from about half ten...
  7. avatar rinky
They played Nelly the Elephant on new years?!
  8. avatar joe-bangles
Sunday's are a good night in here. Really good fun - I was only in once on a Saturday night and it was decent enough but there were plenty of tools running around.
I got really worried about it though when they were running an aftershow party for Pink.

its not quite karoke, its more like people having a good time - partaking in the live music environment something a dj cannot offer. also, dont diss kenny rogers - he's a legend.... sucks for the dj guys - but lets face it if they are as good as you say they'll get somewhere else.

I like what roost is doing - its found a nice wee spot for country music - cos its probably escaped you that theres a few pretty sweet country bands in belfast - cheesy... i think not.

i never did like those speakers on the outside. there's been a clear decline in the quality of music polluting church lane over the last 6 months.

YES! the manager and his cheesemongering sidekick had some man in as a special new years treat on for fifteen minutes at midnight, he played Coldplay, Kid Rock and that! real slick!

It also says on the website that the speakers on the outside add a european feel! oh aye eropean as hell!
  13. avatar isis
I always really like the speakers on the outside! The first time I went in after it had been taken over I was greeted in thon lane by Golden Brown.

I like the Sunday nights but I haven't been there any other time really. Not a fan of Kareoke, and can never work out how ot spell it either.

Friggin hell. Shocked either Jonny or Mark stayed on after that. Well out.

Maybe take back what I said about the Roost, just heard some horror story of a pals chums who were in last Fri night. They were headbutted and hit after 10 mins in the venue, refused any refund by the management then denied any back up by the door men, who declared the offenders would be chucked out if it happened AGAIN! I think there was also abit of willy exposure...nice.

If you know either Mark or Johnny you'll know they're are nice guys, and them staying on after this is testement to that. They're well out for sure, a lucky escape, the guy who runs it and his Mitchell brother sidekick however can't escape, they'll always be knobs. ha ha

Oh yes people, I was there on New Years and Nelly the Elphant was played by the OAP they got to fill the midnight spot. He actually lost count of the count down to midnight - alzheimers perhaps. Think I saw the cheap thrill DJs weeping into their record bags.

If they are gone so is my last thread of hope for the Roost. Numpty fucks enfant terrible may favour a bit of cheese on a Saturday night - not judging anyone who does - but if I wanted that I'd go to the M-Club. At least they have a dance floor.

Cheap Thrill was wise to jump ship before it sinks. Holding out for their next venutre...
  19. avatar valium
    Well said kilroy silk!

Our opinons on the Roost are obviously getting up a few noses, 'Les Enfant Terribles' anyone?? Who are you related to in there? No doubt one of the two arseholes that run the place.

Chill out mate, we get it you love the Roost and I'm sure you fit in there perfectly with all the other knobs.

    My first post!
Ha! Think you've met your match old Enfant. So much bitterness for such a small child.

But to the main point... Have Jonnie and Mark really gone?! Who rules the Roost? Have they had a labotomy? Only been a couple of times after the move from the life boat but the Saturday night music was class.
Feel bad for the Sunday night - if they're good like the other say they should watch their backs, looks like good music is on the way out. Perhaps Willie Exposure sums it up!
  21. avatar thesacredhearts
Afaik Cheap Thrill has decamped to the menagerie.

Saw a karaoke set up in the roost at christmas and thought it was a bit odd given previous friday/saturday night outings there.

The fellas running it probably weren't seeing return on a load of people coming down to listen to italo disco and prince, and thought the cheddar market was more profitable. Nothing wrong with that if you're a business man.

That or they just don't like the chromatics.
  22. avatar thesacredhearts
    Also Kenny Rogers is amazing.

Its such a shame. I really like this bar to pop in fer a 5pm pint or a sip on a Sunday. And the guys from Jackson cage are great. I think they need to take a long look at where their business is heading to and stick the brakes on before its too late!

Valium mate, go fuck yourself. Eh big lad?

Ps Kenny Rogers is da bomb.

Mark Gilliland's playing the Menagerie this Saturday night.
Hopefully have Jonny joining him in there soon too...
