Many of thy favourite 'rock stars' are falling over themselves to be in a new 'web com' (or something) and show the 'hilarious' underbelly to the music biz.

As Alan "I Hate Music" McGee says:

[quote:da6364ae28]"Because I know almost everybody in the music business, it's not that hard for me to phone them up and go, 'do you want to be in a viral thing?'

"I'm just having a laugh. It's not serious. I'm not trying to get a Bafta or an Oscar.

"I'm playing Alan McGee with guys that I've just met who I like. And bizarrely, it works and I like the people, so I'll carry on doing it." [/quote:da6364ae28]

Having watched the youtube stuff, I can say it makes me feel sad.

It's as if someone actually asked the question, "Wouldn't it be great to do a 21st Century update of (notoriously unfunny late 90s 'comedy') The Young Person's Guide to being a Rock Star?"

And then actually went ahead and did it.

    I weep.

The beauty of this type of problem is that if you don't watch it, it has no effect on you.

I have been blissfully unmoved by the entire Reality TV and Newstainment blight of the past decade, because my telly sees ever-decreasing usage now that the Interwhat offers me whatever viewing I can imagine wanting and more besides.

Granted there's a thousand times more crap on 'tweb, but because I can choose where to browse at a granular level, I only see the good bits referred to me by people whose taste I respect. And lolcats.

I know that, but even the fact that it* exists bothers me.

    *Alan McGee.

"It's a parody of the world of rock 'n' roll,"

But rock and roll is already parodying itself, so this is a parody of a parody?

it's like when McGee was managing Mogwai, and said 'Mr Beast' was the best art-rock album since 'Loveless'.

Then went on about six months later to say that My Bloody Valentine were his idea of a joke band, and that no-one should take them seriously.

Does that mean that 'Mr Beast' is the best joke album since 'Loveless'?

I know I shouldn't pay any attention to him at all, but I can't help it.

It's like picking at a scab.

It just means you shouldn't pay any attention to what anyone says when they're promoting shit. Like Chris Barrie saying "Red Dwarf - Back To Earth" was the best Red Dwarf they'd ever done...

I've told you Steven, you're mixing up the words "Alan McGee" and "music" again.

these poor, poor deluded people. It's not a coincidence that the word "music" is mentioned only once in this article. Rock N'Roll = alternate reality with vague connections to actual music.

See "Flight of the Conchords" for a proper parody of actual music.
