    Hi,

I've set up a blog with all the stuff I had published in AU over the years. Some of it is possibly not very good, particularly the earlier stuff, but it's all there for the sake of completism. Unless I've missed some out by accident. Yeah.

    Anyway, it's here: http://defythis.wordpress.com/

I'd like to get back into writing stuff again, so if anyone is interested in having me write for them, or if anyone has any suggestions as to who I could approach, please let me know!

    Thanks. :)

    Some good stuff in there!

I was surprised by the amount of bits I remember reading in the original magazines...

I liked the Pinback review. I love that album.

I should totally do something like this too. I don't even know if I have half the articles I've done...

While using screenshots of the AU website/scans of the magazine looks quite good, no search engine will be able to pick up on the content, which would mean no-one would ever find your stuff. Although I appreciate that transcribing all those reviews would be a right pain in the ass.

You're such a doom bringer, Ian!

    *sigh*

They might pick up on the keywords... maybe... no?

I don't have the time/will to transcribe owt. At least it gives me somewhere to point people towards, even if Google won't!

Thanks for the comments folks. :D

Have you thought of using OCR software?
  7. avatar Gogs
Not since they showed us how shit it was when I was doing my A Levels.

That was a very long time ago, mind you.

    If you've got Office 2007...
    http://vista.blorge.com/2007/07/29/how-to-ocr-images-and-printed-documents-using-office-2007-on-vista/

Super time saver for me. Easy peasy as well, and the accuracy is brilliant. There's a few mistakes sometimes but they're with words like "riff" and "bullshit".

I think I've got an older version of Office (2003?), I'm at work now so can't check, but I'll have a look into this OCR malarky in a bit! Cheers for the suggestion, hadn't even crossed my mind actually.

Same here. I have everything on my hard drive so it wouldn't be too difficult. But could I be arsed? I will at some point I spose.

    I guess the question is:

Does anybody really want to read an archive of my old musings?

    The answer is "no."

Au contraire! Anyway, it would be more for myself/prospective future employers than any poor sods that fancy reading a load of middling reviews and features.

Yes, because it makes research so much easier for bloggers like myself (fact checking and reviews of previous albums), plus the more articles you read the better you become as a journalist.....apparently.

I hope this is true, because in that case, I might just be the greatest writer who ever lived, having wasted the gift of life by reading music rags since the age of 13.

I may have been the only 13 year old in the world who read Mojo magazine.

A year and a half later, I did actually get round to transcribing all of it, and I even got a domain too. How exciting.
