Any of yous see it there on Friday?

Thing is, it actually wasn't too bad. But what's the point? Why not just bloody repeat the originals, which, incidentally, they haven't done for donkeys years.

Why bother doing it again? Must everything be so fucking modern? Can we no longer understand things unless they happened yesterday, or even better, today?

    Are they not on GOLD?
I'm certain I saw them recently.
Anyway, any more repeats and everyone will just say "all thats ever on TV is bloody repeats"

And if they remake it, then they can make it last more than 12 episodes, as 6 episodes a series can't match up to the 20+ that the US companies are pushing out, losing out in DVD sales, which is the big market the BBC needs to break if they can get more money given how much the license fee is under attack.

it probably just takes less time and money to redevelop or remake something that was done before. if bbc owns all rights to reggie perrin, it means thay don't have to commission with writers and go into discussions of intelectual ownership and rights and crap.

Leonard Rossiter in The Rall & Fise of Feginald Rerrin is no
    Leonard Rossiter in "Britannia Hospital"
or even in "2001 - An ARP Odyssey"

Having just watched the first episode, I quite enjoyed it.

That's what I'm saying, it actually wasn't too bad....

mainly because it was pretty much [i:64e16f0c99]the same show[/i:64e16f0c99], with a couple of wee updates just to make it modern.

I'm just thinking, do we need updates to make it modern? Have we all completely forgotten the 70s and 80s, so much so that a comedy set then doesn't make sense.

It just seems really really pointless. And Martin Clunes, though reasonably [i:64e16f0c99]alright[/i:64e16f0c99], is no Leonard. And your man's not in it, him with the rare looking face who was in "As Time Goes By"....his character was class in the original.

    Martin *F*CKING* CLunes?!?!

So who will play Martin Clunes when they remake "No Place Like Home"?? ANDREW GRISWOLD!?!?

Like I say, its probably less about updating the classic for a modern audience and more about a cheap way to make more income. Although the first episode was very like the original, I suspect as the series goes on (if it does well) it will diverge from the original, like the US office did.

The title being simply Reggie Perrin also doesn't restrict them to a Fall and a Rise.

I'd bet a bag of skittles someone is hidden away at the BBC attempting to find out how they could make Fawlty Towers into a 12 episodes a series, 7 series money maker.

I only saw ten minutes of it before I had to turn over for fear of eating my fist. It was abysmal. I hadn't seen the original, by the way.

    I'm up for it.

The new Reggie Perrin was... well, it just [i:55e7b8d6d4]was[/i:55e7b8d6d4]. If nothing else, it made me want to rewatch the original.
