    If your under 17:

Not that I personally would have had an interest in entering, but wouldn't it have made more sense to open it to people of all ages, to generate more interest/buzz, or perhaps even make it televisable on that woeful UTV channel?

Hmmm half an hour of middle aged mid-life crisising frustrated noodlers going through the Steve Vai songbook? Yeah that's the kinda TV I want. Because that's what you'd get. Steve McQueen and Saxondale clones. Except without the charm and humour.

It's for kids! This is a good thing. Don't be bitter.

The fact that it's for under 17 year olds means that granny/ma demographic will watch wee Jimmy from three streets over, not because they want to see his impressive guitar playing skills but because someone from Ballynabackarse of nowhere is one TV. UTV are master granny pleasers, and so it will stay.
