  4. avatar rentaghost
    fig rolls

    Ian have you tried Sawyers?
  5. avatar j0j0
I've seen them in tescos, maybe you can only get them when they are in season? Did you try the fruit and veg shop opposite Iceland in the City Centre (North Street I think). They definitely had them while ago.
  6. avatar fopp
Doubt you're missing much, I bought a two a few weeks ago for the first time and didn't think much of them.

I've been dying for figs. I used to eat them loads when I still lived in Italy and atually don't remember ever eating figs here besides the ones i tried (which were utter shite).

Someone has to get fresh figs here, I demand it!

    Fig rolls taste like shit.
  9. avatar POSITIVExYOUTH
You barbarian people need to be converted to fig on bread (and not shitty loaf, I am talking real European-style crusty bread).
  10. avatar boarsheadtaverncheapside
Me like flesh pig on soda farl, me barbarian tho.
  11. avatar POSITIVExYOUTH
Don't talk about bacon, it's the only meat I actually miss.
  12. avatar boarsheadtaverncheapside
Ack it's not the moon on a stick or nuthin', you can easily go without it. Winston C'Hill says a dog looks up to you, a cat looks down on you, but a pig treats you like it's equal, and he'd visit the pigs when he was blue.
I'd give up the hog flesh before cow or sheep or fish like.

Should this topic not be moved to the 'Figs forum'?

I was met with a blank stare in all but sawyers, who were able to tell me they had none, but not whether it was out of season. God bless our wee country. No exotic fruit, no school dinner restaurants, and no public transport after 11pm. Figgin' in the Riggin'.

Did you try asking for Figgis from Only When I Laugh, played by James Bolan? They might have that.

This isn't limited to Belfast. There was a fig shortage earlier this year - to the point that I think fig rolls were even in short supply. This was caused by a disease threatening the wasp that pollinates the fig plant (I don't know where that is - where are figs sourced).

So yeah - possible the fig-pollinating wasp is extinct or there is still just a shortage as a knock-on effect of that. I have my eye out for figs most of the time and while you do get them sometimes, there are definetely a lot fewer about. Let's hope the wasp gets better soon.

Sorry to drag this topic into the realms of seriousness.
  27. avatar POSITIVExYOUTH
Right enough, where are figs sourced from? I know Italy and Greece have plenty (I used to steal a load of figs from the fig tree that was in the cop's back garden).

And I hope the wee wasps get better soon.

sorry to hijack, buy why can't I find a Sara Lee cheesecake anymore...?

few years ago every garage had them for 99p, strawberry, absolutely amazing... now every place I go to doesn't have them anymore. Damn sure Tescos, Iceland, and 'Marksies' don't have anything but their own below par brands (although I've yet to try said M&S one)

Have I just been unlucky and all the places I used to buy them just stopped stocking them..? I e-mailed them but no reply yet :(
