Linley Hamilton, jazz trumpeter, does a radio show at midnight on a Wednesday on BBC Radio Ulster, also does free live gigs in Madisons every Monday night.

Seen him a few weeks ago, playing with a few others, the whole groups pretty immense.

He's also a supremely nice chap!

I must get down next monday, as I've been wanting to see some live jazz in Belfast for ages.

Is there anywhere else that anyone would reccomend?

Moving On Music have some great jazz events in November that will definitely be worth checking out!

Improvising jazz/experimental rock act 'The Thing' will be in the Black Box, Belfast on 19th November at 8pm (Tickets £12/8 are available from www.movingonmusic.co.uk or from Belfast Welcome Centre - 028 9024 6609).

This Scandinavian trio featuring saxophonist Mats Gustafsson, drummer Paal Nilssen-Love and bassist Ingebrigt Haker Flaten, have been largely influenced by free jazz pioneer Don Cherry. They have an extremely unique sound that fuses together the spirit of 1960's free jazz, with the raw power of rock/punk and they have collaborated with a diverse range of artists from jazz legend Joe McPhee to Sonic Youth.

The Thing are an amazing live act and their set consists of their own compositions and free jazz standards as well as very original interpretations of classic tracks by Iggy Pop and Black Sabbath! As an added bonus, for this performance at the Black Box, The Thing will be joined by Japanese multi-instrumentalist Otomo Yoshihide.

Also, from 26th - 30th November, the brilliant 'Liquorice Stick All-Sorts' will be on tour.
