Ok, I know it's illegal and wrong and I know that when you do it most will have been ripped down by the council by morning but it was really annoying for us to find the posters that hadn't been ripped down had been postered over by another band/promoter barely a day after being put up.

I thought there was some sort of etiquette with this? When putting our lovely expensive full colour posters up we made sure NOT to poster over anything yet to happen. I expect it from nightclubs etc but not from fellow bands/promoters:(

I also seen some guys putting up posters the other night and gleefully ripping down AU magazine adverts. They were also band people.

It's not like there's not enough walls and bins for us all to destroy:(
  2. avatar Revenge Therapy
who covered them? I try and stay off anything thats yet to happen, its got bad again of late with club posters( that I don't put up) going over everything in sight...
thats pretty mental about the AU posters being pulled down
  3. avatar TheJaneBradfords
Not saying who but they know themselves who they are.

My point anyway isn't to name n shame but rather have a wee moan. I spent a lot of money on posters and that was obvious by looking at them... you don't get that many album launches in your lifetime:(
  4. avatar Niall Harden
Three Tales have had at least two launches so far and it's not out for six weeks or something..

PS name & shame! do it! else i'm gonna assume it was the bow street runners.
  5. avatar goodonpaper
I'm in a constant state of annoyance with people postering over things - it's mostly nightclubs, but the odd band night likes to go a bit crazy.

Do you think designating postering sites would go anywhere to help this? I guess at least it might be slighty easier to keep track of who is postering over pending events and have a shout about it.
  6. avatar thesacredhearts
Shouldn't really need to designate the poster sites (apart from that there isn't anything official, or that aren't the hoarding outside some construction or another) as there is plenty of room around.

I guess theres just some people who think that anywhere is fair game and bollocks to anyone else who's trying to promote.

As an aside though, with the increasing number of nights/gig/bands in the city, Shirley the council need to look at having official sites?

Thats what I meant - wasn't it supposed to be part of the two part plan to tackle fly-postering (part one being ripping 'em down from "unofficial" locations)?
  8. avatar rentaghost
    yes.

If someone was lobbying the council on this they might want to suggest Morris or Litfass columns as used for public postering in Berlin, Paris, Barcelona, Aberdeen and Edinburgh, so they might.
  9. avatar thesacredhearts
Sorry i thought you meant some kind of impossible way of bands dividing up the illegal sites between them :D

I honestly don't know though, i never heard anything about that, last i knew was there was some sort of an event organised with promoters, the council etc that was open to all an no one went.

Well I guess its wrong in the sense that the property we're destroyin ain't ours. Altho we stuck to sites that has been 'laid waste to' before
  13. avatar Desus
Even fucking Derry has official designated poster sites!! Its kinda handy as well because as I pass by one on a return home I often have a quick read of the pillar.
  14. avatar Niall Harden
the proper poster sites in dublin, run by micromedia and some other crowd, in shops and on building sites and such, are a delight.

yeah chris, but it doesn't mean its not important.. you give a fuc.k when its a winding stair gig or whatever and you are bombarding me with texts about posters so go piss up a rope
  18. avatar comprachio
Thing that annoys me about the councils viewpoint is that they spend so much money on half-arsed attempts at removing the posters that end up looking worse.

Fly posters are a lot easier to remove than they think

The building in Shaftsbury Sq adorned with posters is a hideous piece of architecture anyhow, them there posters actually enhance its aesthetic if anything else. Great catchment area, what with students and workers streaming past.

Tend to agree with folk in that there should be an area designated for posting.

Agree... used to remind me of stuff all the time when I lived up the Lisburn road and walked past it everyday... How can buildings in such prime locations be left derelict for soooo long though?! That, and I kinda miss the wooden walkway around the construction site on the dublin road, across from weaterspoons.

I for one don't, had the misfortune of running into a spot of bother one night along that walkway. But then again it had nothing whatsoever to do with the walkway.

because we seem intent on demolishing 'useless' buildings like the Rotterdam to build shiny new apartments and offices with 'gormless windows' that are ready for businesses to move into, which is simpler and cheaper than doing an old building up.

You'll only get that happening if it's listed.

So what happens is the building is left to rot until it is past the point of no return, demolished and new shiny gormless structures built in its place.
  23. avatar T Entertainment
Or they mysteriously and completely by accident of course burn down.
    Whooops there!

I was actually sad enough to call the developers to ask what was going on it with it - as it's been sitting derelict in such a great space for a long time now. It's got planning permission to be a slightly larger clone of Equality House - Apparently Tesco Local were originally planning to take the ground floor which was putting a lot of initial capital into the build, but then moved on down the Dublin Road. So now it's sitting waiting for a bit of money, I guess.

You know, just in case you wondered.
  25. avatar The enfant terrible
I don't see why so many people get het up about this, there should be a place to poster, if there isn't then stick them up on unused buildings, as for people saying it's unsightly, it's a lot less unsightly than a large amount of crap public art and recent buildings. You pay your taxes (apart from those of you on the dole) so why let yourself be told what to do?
  26. avatar thefatson

i always wanted to try and get support for a giros-style venue in that building...never got round to looking into it.

sucks there's nothing like giros anymore.
  29. avatar fastfooderbelfast
Vince here form bow street runners. We dont poster. Niall obviously has some kind of disliking to us as its the second time he's brought up our name in a forum which has nothing at all to do with us  Just clearing our name here. We're far too poor to have posters printed for our gigs :(

Also, gig in the world famous cavern club, liverpool, on the 25th if your interested.

    Cheers guys.

It's very annoying having posters covered.

Revenge Therapy AKA 'Used to be angry and now not very angry at all though has the potential to be' Phil now does them, and does a great job. He does limelight, stiff kitten and god knows how many more, and follows the etiquette.

If i've had a problem with covering my posters in the past, i've contacted the promoter / venue and sorted it out directly, since countless threads on this issue in the past have proven totally worthless.
