Ten years! Where did that go? Still, Fastfude wouldn't be here if you lot weren't constantly fuelling the site with debate, discussion, banter and argument.
This gig is really just a party to mark the milestone, and to say thanks to you all for reading & contributing over the years. Hopefully it'll continue to be useful, informative, provocative and good craic for many years to come!
I was young and foolish then, I feel old and foolish now

Fastfude is the home of Northern Ireland's music scene online.
Since 1998 it's been a meeting place for bands and fans, as well as a pool of knowledge and shared experience for musicians.
Full of informed debates, hard working resource and even soapbox ranting, Fastfude has constantly supported and enhanced the outstanding music of Northern Ireland.
Ever contentious, and always full of wry NI humour, the site is built by its readership – which now stretches across the world as Northern Ireland's music gets better and better. Tens of thousands of people contributing hundreds of thousands of topics and comments every year.
This year Fastfude is ten years old: an amazing achievement for any website, and a milestone for music here.
To mark the occasion and say thanks to everyone who has been a part of the site and its community, we're having a party on Saturday January 5th in Belfast's Empire Music Hall. We want you to be there.
The show kicks off at 8.30pm sharp with live bands and DJs, and we'll party till we can't party any more.
Fastfude is 10 – join us to kick in the new year, and here's to another 10 for Northern Ireland's loudest website!

UPDATE: Coda have been added to the lineup in place of The Elliots who've had to bow out.
Jeez. Ten Years?
Nice to see Stand-Up Guy on the bill.
Same price as five years ago! What a bargain!
And, further exercising my arithmetic skills, Roger will be 30 the next day?
Are we gonna have badges with our online names on? Although inevitably everyone would get on great in person as we're all luvvies at heart.
Should there be a special old geezers area with complementary pipe and slippers for the likes of Feline 1, Zebulon and myself who have been here from the start?
Oooh, and can we have cardboard cutouts to represent gone but not forgotten posters such as RadioheadGuy1 and In Prog We Trust?

Fuc-king right man, did you see Heroes last night, fu-ck me. I did one of those which Heroes characters are you tests on the internet- and I was Peter Petrelli, I'm a bit worried now.
Hows about organising a show of strengh from the Fastfude Hardmen?
Who would that be?
My guesses are:
Andrewslucy. Ryankozzi. That guy who went on about 'special blood'. The original singer from the Dangerfields. Raymie. That guy who threatened Baron for being a spoilt kid from the Malone Road. Liam Gory.

Ancient fastfude manuscripts reveal the Fastfude Hardmen were spawned by Lily Allen
(having re-read that, it was a thread of genius with the freestyling and the Fiest/Feist)
I may be an old-timer, but I've only been on fastfude since 2005. But I was just thinking about how many people from here that I've met in real life.
Just off the top of my head, there's fastfude (of course), dirty stevie smitty, rentaghost, cruz, Chi-Lite, drive by fader, chrisjedijane, AngelaMOK, elms, rigsyATL, TalkShowMan, lemonade, Estrella Ojos, trixie sidebottom, kasey, georgia, Captain Kennedy, Mikeymoto, gregz, huggy baps, mcflymo, smittennn, xfirefishx, The Fires of Hell, gl2400, Halfcaste, jenniemcc, Tates Modern, lauramstevenson, FiddlerOnTheRoof, Alice, charlysays2, Pete, MSB Mastering, comprachio, Amz, tinpot anto, Ratoot, Daithi jasper, icedcoffee, goatboy, greensleevesisgod, scott_evil, hardstaff0p, Kid Al, thesacredhearts (those last four due to buying or selling stuff).
That's about forty, but I'm sure there are many more that haven't come to mind immediately. And I'm not counting the many people I know by sight, having seen them play.
Come to think of it, if it wasn't for fastfude, I'd have no friends. I'll bet that was Roger's idea for himself when he started it. We nerds need help to get a social life.

Yes but surely:

Always been my favourite scene from Nerdfellahs.
I predict a scene where ryan "unplugged" kozzi attempts to convince Chris that the £2.99 bottle of Liebfraumilch that his mate smuggled in is actually just as nice as the £17.99 Chablis that Chris is swalling, and I mean he's drank his mates Chablis before and it really was just as good.
Many thanks to Roger for inviting the Dangerfields to play at this. And so we trundle on into another year, our eighth! Very soon we will be celebrating our own ten years of pap.

I think you're getting a bit confured there, Liam.
1). You have never seen Petrie live before. We disbanded mid-2000.
2). That's a Petrina Goatboy song. Thankfully, there are no more Petrina Goatboy shows pencilled in for ever again.

Indeed. Way back towards the beginning of '99, I was in Backbeat (probably picking up the latest Kaleidoscope demo) and picked up an application form for the Fastfude Gourmet season demo competition.
Myself and my friend Graeme decided to try and write and record a song for a bit of fun to send in. We recorded a song called "The Cardboard Cow" under the guise of "Chickenpox", which featured Graeme playing guitar (he couldn't really play guitar) and I was playing bass (I wasn't too hot at that either), singing and hitting a tambourine with my feet completely out of time and all recorded live on a sh*tty tape recorder).
We sent it in and we ended up in a heat with 5 other bands, I think. We pretty much cheated as much as we could and got a sh*t loads of votes, more than any other band in the whole competition, including Roo and Cecil's Flea Circus.
As we won our heat, we had to play 3 tracks in the Limelight. We weren't really too sure what we were going to do, but we managed to rustle up a bit of a band with Graeme on bass, his friend Guy on guitar and vocals, me on keyboard and Brian from Watercress helped us out by drumming. We didn't play The Cardboard Cow as we opted to play 3 of guys songs instead. We got 1% of all of the votes (4) on the night and word on the street is Radio 1 DJ and TV presenter Colin Murray voted for us!?!?!?!?! We would have had more votes, but unfortunately every single member of entourage got kicked out for being underage (we were only 14/15, as was our entourage).
After the gig, we got a drummer and changed our name to Chickenpox Pet Rescue, later changing it to Petrie. We had some seriously decent tunes. We probably should have played the "age" game a bit more, but we decided to pretend we were over 18 so we could get pissed and play in pubs instead.
I love the way you ruined the opportunity for a more deserving act.
I demand Roger Herbert is carried in on one of these;
while M People's "Search For The Hero" is played over the PA
Heather Smalls had an unfortunate name and looked like a pineapple.

Noise Annoys
BY DAVID ROY d.roy@irishnews.com
Hello and welcome back to Noise Annoys, the local music column that stubbornly refuses to start the new year by making a few carefully selected lifestyle changes.
Instead, my first order of business for 2008 is to tell you all about the marvellous party a friend of mine is throwing tomorrow evening at that most auspicious of local venues, The Belfast Empire Music Hall.
It’s kind of a double celebration actually. Not only will Roger Herbert be heartily congratulating himself on managing to stay alive for a whopping three decades, he’ll also be whooping it up over a whole ten years of success for his living legacy, www.fastfude.org
The online home of the Belfast music scene, Fastfude was set up by Roger as a college project way back in the dim and distant days of 1998.
For the past tenth of a century the perplexingly named website has been a virtual meeting place and vital resource for Northern Ireland based bands and music fans.
With discussion forums expressly geared towards all areas of local music, plus live gig listings and a classified/wanted section, Fastfude is an invaluable free and totally independent resource crammed with useful user generated content.
The site boasts thousands of people contributing hundreds of thousands of topics and comments on everything from the latest gigs and the best place to record a demo to why their mate’s band were “totally robbed” at that last battle of the bands, so they were.
There’s even a little bit of tangential topical debate to keep things spicy and relevant, not to mention an entire lexicon of site-specific colloquialisms and humorous “routines” that newcomers complain about right up until the moment they start using them too. Trust me though, if you’re the kind of crazed loner who reads this column on a regular basis, you’ll fit right in over on Fastfude.
Anyway, to celebrate his creation’s tenth birthday, Mr Herbert has organised a rip roaring knees-up called Fastfude Is 10, a thank-you to everyone who’s been a part of the site and its community in the past, present and hopefully future. He wants everyone to come along and enjoy themselves just as soon as they’ve paid the requisite £5 entry fee, preferably in exact cash.
For this paltry sum, you’ll gain access to a smorgasbord of local music delights including live performances from Coda, Escape Act, The Dangerfields, Stand-Up Guy and The Tin Pot Operation linked together by tons of pre-recorded local tunage courtesy of DJs from the Fastfude user base (including yours truly) who’ll be frantically cramming as many homegrown songs into their 20 minute slots as possible.
All the bands featured have long used Fastfude as a tool to help them gain a foothold on that slippery, slimy beast we call the local music scene, while the night will end with a full-on lalt fuelled rave-up courtesy of dedicated Fastfuders turned eclectic local club and comedy revue, Bop Yestrum: expect masks, free-form percussion and high speed collisions between Jesus Lizard, KLF and Can.
Doors open at 8:00pm and the fun will last as long as the patience of the Empire bouncers holds out. Here’s to a happy birthday for Roger and another ten long years of Fastfude based shenanigans for us all.

whats on the fastfude cd?
The main reason I stayed a bit longer in Belfast for Christmas was to go to this gig, although now it's looking like I can't make it, unless I start feeling a bit better.
Since New Year's day I have had a cold which seems to be transforming into a flu and is progressively getting worse. I plan to blast it tonight with lots of hot whisky. I really am hoping I'll make it.
Stand-up Guy are looking forward to this!! 20 mins gives us 3 songs (and those are our short songs) to whip you Indie folk into submission. Expect big riffs, a ginger rhythm section and more big riffs.
See you all there
Ian
"I plan to blast it tonight with lots of hot whisky."
Goat, believe it or not, drinking heavily in any shape or
form will NOT aid your recovery...it may make you feel a bit better for the period of your intoxication but the only possible effect it can have on the course of your flu (if any) will be to lengthen your recorvery time!

Urgent personal stuff, hope you all had a good time without us.
Happy birthday Fastfude and Rog.
Just back from this - fantastic, like a cross between a school reunion, a works night out and a great little gig at a small-town club. We should all have worn badges with our user-names, but otherwise I can't think of any way it could have been better.
Roger - more of this sort of thing, you sexy mother-f**ker.
Thanks to all who turned up last night and endured our set, probably not everyones cup 'o' tea but we greatly appreciate the reception. We (Stand-up Guy)had a great time. Happy Birthday Fastfude.

Here is Roger, crowned with the Cape of Glory by the Dangerfields.

All the bands were great. I left straight after the Dangerfield's set because I was feeling very sick. Not because of the band's performance (although you never know). I hope it's not that hospital puking bug, and I hope if it is I haven't infected the fastfude community...
First time I'd seen Coda and Stand Up Guy, but I was impressed by both, and I'd take them in again. The DF's were perfect for finishing the night off.
Escape Act are getting stronger every time I see them, bloody marvellous. Band of the night for me.
Pity about the TPO not being able to play, I had to radically change my dj set at the last minute, but my 20 minutes worth were:
The Hold Steady: Hot Soft Lights
The Walkmen: The Rat
British Sea Power: Please Stand Up
The Replacements: Alex Chilton

Auy, Stand up Guy were awesome... Coda too. I had to split after Iso9's set, but twas a great wee night... cheers Rog.
Yeah, a great night altogether, fantastic to see such a strong turn out. Here's to the next ten *ching*
I didn't make it as I was at Astral Weeks Revisited in the Oh Yeah Building, and was much too tired after it.
I will be in there at the next one, 2018!
Yep,great night,mornin' etc.
Anyway,Stand Up Guy were immense as were Escape Act,gutted to have missed Coda.
The Dangerfields will, and forever be,The Dangerfields.
Great to see some people again.
Good fun...another 10 Rog?
Raging i missed this. And you wanna know the worst? I was 20 feet below you all. I had to go to mates birthday downstairs where Doghouse were playing. Not a bad band i must say. Ska isnt really my thing but wasnt a bad night.
Spent alot of time laughing at Drews humour outside so im sure i seen alot of you - Drew, that man is a legend.
Heard good reports though about the party upstairs from few of you i talked to. Hope all you guys had a good night. Sounded like a blinder. Well done to all the bands and Im not the only one to say that Mr Herbert is a genius for brain-childing this site. Well done Rog.
I think how many bands are on the scene now that wouldnt have came to light if it hadnt been for this site?
I spent the night in the bathroom. Joy. Glad it went well, gutted i missed SUG, guess i'll have to wait til feb. I heard the lalt was in effect all nite long. Did any arguements carry over from the forum?
No-one got hurt as far as I'm aware.
'Twas a fantastic evening of multifarious, musical melarky.
I had an absolute blast at this.
Stand-up Guy were marvellous, as were Escape Act. I really liked Coda's new song too.
And Roger - capes are clearly the way forward!!
Get cape, wear cape, die.
Just in case anyone hasn't seen it, this is the Cape in better days:

I have a few more photos of the actual night. I'll get them on line tomorrow.
great larks! thoroughly enjoyed that, i did.
A host of absolute b*stards.

Did Ryan Kernaghan beat up any cheetahs?
That was left to the Fastfude hardmen.
I hadn't realised that this was a male model convention as well as a gig.
Any girls I know who were photographed made it quite clear that posting on FF would result in castration. With one honourable exception. ![]()
I particularly like Roger's choice of Tshirt for the biggest day of his entire life.
You really have have a low opinion of what Roger can expect from life, don't you?
Also:

I have no idea who half those people are... Infact I generally have no idea if I know who anyone here is as I've never attempted to bridge the username/ real name void... I spent most of my Saturday hoping that I wouldn't be required to say "lap dog shuffle" at any point and generally cowering amongst groups of familiar scenos that I hadn't seen since the last time I was in the Empire (5 years allready!?) ![]()
I really should have tried to figure out who everyone is because although the anonymity has never bothered me before, I'm now looking at these posts wondering "Who the fuck is T Entertainment??"
Who has the Thatcher pic?
Many thanks to everyone who watched us (S-UG). Didn't think we'd go down so well. So thanks for sticking us out!
Well done to Roger and all the organisers and many thanks for having us on the bill. I fúckin love playing the Empire.
Great night all round.
Unfortunately, I only caught the last couple of Coda songs, but they were great as always.
SUG weren't really my cup of tea. Musically, I quite enjoyed it but all that screaming was a bit too much for me.
Escape Act were fantastic. My first time seeing them and I was very impressed.
That was my first time seeing the Dangerfields with Jasper and they were great, as usual.
Oh, important to thank Shep as well, who kindly took this on board and made sure everything ran swimmingly.
Cheers, big lawd.
I was bloody sick and missed it all, oh well, congratulations on your birthday all the same.
Excellent night. Kudos to all involved
Stand up guy fcking slayed!
I didn't get home until 11am yesterday morning. That can only mean one of two things: either I fell out with everyone I have ever met, or I had one hell of a night! I prefer the former.
It goes without saying that I will never allow myself to be dragged onstage again. I now know the true meaning of the word "scundered".
Sincere and heartfelt thanks to everyone who has kept this avalanche rumbling for a decade. I may be the one turning the crank-handle, but you lot are the ones that make the site what it is. There would be no point in maintaining it if people didn't use it, and that wouldn't happen if it wasn't useful and productive as well as being good craic, so first and foremost thanks to you all.
Special thanks then to Coda, Lap Dog Shuffle, Stand-up Guy, Iso9, Escape Act, Dirty Stevie Smitty, Whosbainejakey, The Dangerfields and Bop Yestrum for a sterling evening's entertainment. Additional special thanks to The Empire staff, Dee & Deezer, Shep, Chris, Ciaran, Eamonn, Dave, Phil for the organisation and smooth running of the show. Yet more thanks to Rigsy & Paul, Rory, Dave, Phil, Eddie, Edwin and anyone else who plugged the gig or marked the event in the meeja. I have almost certainly missed a few there, but only because my brain has yet to resume normal functions since the weekend, apologies if you should be in that list somewhere, but aren't.
It was as well you went relatively peacefully after a bit of cajoling, Herbert - four burly men (well, me, Flumox, Smitty and PDN Ed) were primed to carry you on stage if there had been prolonged resistance. For the de-bagging of your life.
It was indeed good craic this.. I stayed down the back in case I wandered into some kind of fastfude hardmen/wookie/lalt themed stuff down the front right.. a dangerous place for any man without the correct jabs.
Almost forgot about this - have you ever seen a jaw as square as Crossey's?!
It's the manliest jaw in the scene. If the last ten years are to mean anything, surely that's it?

Is he having difficulty swallowing a box?

Oh Matron!
