My Laney TF400 amp has a built in reverb feature and always worked just fine when I was gigging and practicing regularly with it but as I've been doing neither for the past year it's suddenly started giving off a serious level of hum when I turn the amp on and turn the reverb knob up. It's never did this before and I've no idea what's up with it. Could the year's inactivity have anything to do with it or does anyone have any other ideas?

    is it a spring pot?
    or a hard wired effect?

If it's a spring reverb, the spring may have been disconnected.

Mine Fender Champion does the same thing and I'm pretty sure its the spring.

Spring reverb units are well known for causing hum... but is the Laney TF series not loaded with digital effects (i.e. not a spring reverb) ?

    Steve.

I have taped mine up and stuck it with blu tac since one of the springs broke, just until I get a new one.

But that stops the high frequency vibration that causes the HUM.

    so try that.
