my posts keep dissapearing!!!

ANYWAY

Every Monday night, Across the Line finishes with THE GLITCH.

THE GLITCH is essentially a ten minute mini-mix - a total mash-up of styles, very fast moving, full of film clips and curveballs and musical oddities....and some big hitters, of course.

So far, we've had 8 of these broadcast - from some of Northern Ireland's finest established and bedroom DJs.

we're looking for new DJs (or just people with decent taste and access to basic technology for mixing - ableton/acid etc) to have a go at this. if you're interested, email atl@bbc.co.uk

The "rules" are:
you can't repeat any tracks from previous mixes....
* there must be at least 14 tracks in your mix, maximum 10 minutes
* not too much of one style
* at least some big rock or indie tracks
* and...most importantly.....YOU MUST START WHERE THE LAST DJ FINISHED!!!!
this is the twist - basically all the mixes actually join together! in fact, i've just linked the first 8 together this morning to make an 80 minute mix with around 150 tracks - it's class!

here's the tracklisting so far - let me know if you'd like to join in on the fun...!

Are they not just being moved to the industry and commerce section.
5. avatar rigsyATL
i'm just noticing this now.
it's incredibly frustrating - seems everything we post will be moved to a forum no one looks at because everything we do will be deemed 'industry and commerce', while loads of similar stuff remains on the main forum.
great stuff :-(
6. avatar tinpot anto
It's the same clique as what gets all the same bands on all the time on ATL and Gifted and stuff inn't it ;-)
7. avatar zebulon
Here, am I the only person on here who uses the "New Posts" button on the main page that shows all the latest posts from the all the forums on one page?
8. avatar rigsyATL
you could argue that quite a few of the posts on the main forum are 'industry and commerce' - which is natural enough given this is what this site is primarily about - discussing the industry, letting people know about your music etc. i don't see the point of pulling certain threads into another, quieter forum, but then again it ain't my website.

will this now be moved to the 'disgruntled media whore feedback' forum?

Sorry Rigsy, if everything was left on the main forum the flood of new threads would push new topics onto page 2 or 3 before any decent discussion had a chance of starting up. Hence multiple forums to spread the load and slow the pace a bit.
Dunno what stats you're using to say no-one reads this, but I suspect you're just assuming that because you don't read it no-one else does either. My stats say the opposite :)
If you'd like a nice shiny ATL banner to promote the show, have a look-see here
If you think I've missed any that should be moved, just PM me a link and I'll take a look. I'm not omnipresent, so it's entirely possible that I don't get em all the second they're posted.

It's probably just cause you post as RigsyATL that makes it obvious you're posting on behalf of the show, so it can be moved.

But aye I think this post could have stayed right enough. I dislike the whole "Industry and Commerce" section anyway - it's too broad and most of what has been added to it since it was the studio forum could have stayed on the main board.

I don't like the name of it either.

I'd have went for Industry and Media, but then I think "Commerce" is a dirty wird.

:-)

Oh crap now my reply in your post is going to end up in the "Help" section!
11. avatar fastfude
...and anyhoo, it still shows up in the 'new topics' list on the forum index and in the RSS feed regardless of what forum it's under.

[quote:1a6f7fa839="fastfude"]{about moving topics}[/quote:1a6f7fa839]I thought you'd have sent a message to anyone whose topic was moved. Apart from being polite, you can encourage them to put stuff in the right place to begin with.

Oh, and I've always hated "Industry and Commerce" as a name too.
13. avatar fastfude
It'd seriously increase the time it takes to do the site's daily housekeeping alas. I'd like to think everyone would pick the right forum to begin with and remove the need for me to do it :)

As for the name, I'm not wild about it myself and its easily changed. Suggestions welcome.
14. avatar rentaghost
'Industry and Commerce' was a bit slower to start with, but I think people are starting to get the hang of it now.

Still haven't thought of a better name for it.

Feline1 would probably suggest "Crushed by the Wheels of Industry"
15. avatar ShowYourBones
How about 'Forum Formerly Known As Industry And Commerce'.

Trade?
17. avatar fastfude
It's no small task to find a short and succinct title that clearly encompasses all the various businesses and organisations that provide services to bands. Studios, labels, media, shops, venues, promoters, managers, and so on. "Industry" is the catchall term, but is too vague to be indentified as the right place to post about a specific subset of that lot.
18. avatar tinpot anto
But surely shops etc should be

A - using the classifieds
B - Paying you for advertising space

to use some managementspeak, what about 'networks' or 'networking'?

Precisely. If Roger had any f*cking sense, he would be charging a modest sum to all companies who pay to advertise anywhere else, given that they've had a free ride on FF, the best place to reach this niche audience, for years - and that FF runs at a loss to he.
Sadly the uptake of his extremely reasonable ad spaces was feeble, to say the least. And, as already pointed out he has [i:c0715a4abd]no f*cking sense[/i:c0715a4abd], so he didn't sling everyone off until they played fair. 8)

"Media and Services"

That's it :)
