In the void left by Lost's refusal to do anything but meander in ever confusing circles, and the growing realisation that this season's '24' is a bit rubbish, I have been watching 'Heroes'.

    but is it valid?
  2. avatar PaulMAK
    valid in what way?
  3. avatar The Grace Jones
[quote:fac136186e]"Valid"[/quote:fac136186e] is like the bat-signal for Feline 1. If you are employing it, it indicates you are so bored that you need to either seriously consider switching your current employment or develop a serious nutmeg habit.
  4. avatar thefatson
If by valid you mean good then yes.

It also wears its influences on its sleeve and there a lot of well crafted references to other good sci fi/fantasy in it.
Maybe thats just a good way of ripping them off but I see it as valid.

The only bad thing is the American cheesiness and the tv schedule over there which is making me wait until mid april to see the next episode.

Character development is also quite good. They have managed to combine ja ja binks, night crawler and ninja badassdness into Hiro in a very likable way.

Every episode so far is on www.dailymotion.com

im lovin heroes at the min i have episodes 1-16 and im about halfway thru and its really startin to pick up steam

def check it out if you havnt already

  7. avatar davethetimekeeper
    Prison Break is better...
  8. avatar scott_evil
i really wish i had of watched prison break and its too late to start now!! and with only a dail-up connection  (please let me stay a member!!) downloading isnt an option
  9. avatar miss catface
once you get past the extremely cheesy voice over they have at the start, you'll be hooked. i saw it described somewhere as 'x-men meets lost' which is kinda true, but makes it sound almost tedious, where as its one of those shows that as each one ends you wish the next was out, meaning the american schedule has left me very peeved.
  10. avatar DuncanDisorderly
    the heroes drinking game -

    [i:38010bfe11]Take ONE drink when…[/i:38010bfe11]

Niki sees her reflection wink back at her

    Nathan talks down to Peter

Simone adds utterly no value to a scene

Matt gets really confused about his power

Ando makes a comment regarding giving up or going home

Claire’s dad takes off his glasses, wipes them (or his brow), then puts them back on

    Two Heroes’ paths cross coincidentally

Hiro raises his arms to the sky in an expression of joy

D.L. doesn’t use his ability, but clearly could/should

Sylar shows how much of a badass he is

    They find the sword

The writers use Mohinder’s dad (Dr. Suresh) to explain a key plotline

Any Hero dons a spandex uniform (and you must finish all the drinks around if that uniform sports a big X in the middle)

    and my personal favourite -

Any time Mohinder mentions "my fathers research" (guaranteed to get you pissed as he says it every five minutes).

heroes rocks - like all these american shows (lost, prison break etc) they have boring episodes that you have to endure but usually they are pretty cool.

And so to "and sums it" up:

"Sorry!" < "Home To Roost", just as "Yesterday" < "Meet The Beatles", where "<" = "is no."

Heroes is brilliant. Only watched the first 4 thus far,, but it's such a great cast and a cool idea for a series in general. Hiro is my favourite, for obvious reasons.

The Shield is back on US tv next week - let the rejoicing commence!

'The Shield' is no 'Kojak' which is no.....sorry there

Heroes just gets better and better - download it to avoid the annoying 'sponsored by Eidos' an breaks every nano-second.

    SPOILERISH!!!

The episode where we learn about Bennetts past (17) is probably the best hour of telly so far this year.

It's definitely looking like being a great series.

Season 2 will apparently have an all new cast of 'Heroes' with a different end goal. I think it will probably end up that the different casts of individual seasons will meet up for some grand finale.
  29. avatar I'mDead
I'm about to watch episode ten, but all I can say is, Hiro? Diner? Photograph? Brilliant!

I heard that in the second season there will be a character who uses a mac and plectrums facing off against an arch nemesis who uses fingers and a PC, with a gradually unravelling sub-plot about the meaning of 'indie'.
  30. avatar kingmob
There will also be someone who can deflect all superpowers by offering the *hilarious* put-down 'x is no y'.

Great series, love its comic-book sensibility and the intertwining fates of the unlikely heroes. Annoyed I have to wait til mid-April for the continuation.

Hiro & Ando amuse me with their antics. They deserve a spin-off.
  33. avatar qui-gon
yeah great show. hiro and ando pretty damn funny all the way through. Takes a while to really get going, character building and all that but the last 2 or 3 ep especially are great tv.

    decent copies at www.tv-links.co.uk
  34. avatar whosbainejakey
Supposedly you can watch them all online at the Heroes page of the NBC website (though I'm wondering if it's US only?)

There is an extended version of the pilot episode floating about in Torrent land somewhere; includes a few extra subplots, extended scenes and such.
  35. avatar TRHolmes(y)
On a Lost note, Sunday's episode there was absolute MAGIC. Still can't get over that ending.

It's a shame we have to wait for a while for more Heroes. I wasn't expecting to think much of it but by a few episodes in I was totally hooked. It's a good time for TV.
  36. avatar miss catface
i've heard about this mysterious pilot episode. though from what i've heard theres no point in hunting for it cos the extra subplots include things which were completely scraped from the rest of the series.

i'd liked to say what i know but fear that i'll say about it and the writers suddenly decide they were a good idea after all and bring them back for the final episode! i very much doubt it as one was fairly major, but still! i wouldnt want to spoil on some unknown level! if anyone really really really wants to know that badly message me or more likely go look it up!
  37. avatar ConorKane
I agree, I like what I've seen of Heroes so far. I don't get the whole Lost phenomenon though. My housemate is completely obsessed with it, but since Virgin stopped broadcasting Sky One etc he can no longer watch it :D

My favourite series of the last 6 few years is the Sopranos. I will be saddened when the final episode is shown.
  38. avatar The Ronster
But the fact that the Sopranos is ending is a GOOD thing. Series that run indefinitely are usually balls.

The Sopranos, The Wire, The Shield, Battlestar Galactica, Heroes, Lost, etc etc. -these shows are all going somewhere, with definite dramatic arcs and proper endings written for them.

Revel in that, it's their biggest advantage in my opinion. I love the fact that a creator's vision is being played out on screen. I've heard it compared to a novel, but it's really more like a comic book, in that the story is delievered episodically and in general cannot be changed retrospectively (unlike a novelist, who can go back to chapter 1 and put a gun in a drawer - to do that in telly is cheating a bit, and requires all to convenient flashbacks).

I've recently started to think that the real invention in the medium of moving pictures is on TV - mainstream movies are becoming more and more artisically bankrupt, whereas there always seems to be a new TV Show around the corner that can deliver consistant thrills, intrigue and flat out drama.
  39. avatar Achey
    I love all of them.

Heroes and Prison Break are best, with Lost coming in last. It is still awesome though, I like the concept of it, just, not so......."instantly enjoyable".

So Ron, do you think they know what they're up to on Lost? In the first couple of seasons alotta people would be like "Ahh, their just making it up as they go along" and I was like "That's fine, it's still great." But the more and more we see I now hope they do have it all planned out. Dosent help that i've been listenin to podcasts after each episode and people have noticed a million little things about every scene which has me goin  . LOL.
  42. avatar thefatson
According to an interview with Charlie from lost on Jonathon Ross he said they had it planned start to finish 3 seasons.
Apparently once it got big the Network demanded they stretch it to like 7 seasons hence all the timewasting right now.

I just hope they resolve the story line before it goes Twin Peaks.

I am so damn sad about Twin Peaks I'd love to know the continuation of that story and whatever will happen to Dale Cooper.
  43. avatar kingmob
Surely he got possessed by Bob and was about to go evil at the end of Season 2?

I was prepared to enjoy the ride with Lost but after watching the first mini-season of the third series, I realised I couldn't honestly care what happened to any of them or what the secrets were. There's having a mysterious plot and then there's stringing the viewers along.

Veronica Mars is a great example of giving viewers concrete hints while keeping the mystery, um, mysterious. It's incredibly well written because the story moved on each week and every new clue or mystery was matched by a substantial plot development. Lost doesn't do this. Plus Kristen Bell is hot :D
