Can't really avoid the budget as I work in Tax so needless to say I have been "eagerly" awaiting all announcements....

Some interesting changes though especially with the tax rates changing (albeit in percentage terms rather than pence).

im more interested in the "no stamp duty on new green houses" but i suppose in order to benefit from that the house prices here would need to be a bit less ridiculous

Didn't he cut income tax to 20p? What a bombshell!
He decided that airplanes don't give off enough carbon emissions to validate a rise in their tax or something. If Mr. Ryanair had been a nice British citizen, he'd be awfully happy.

The lower band rate of 10% has been done away with regarding income tax so all in all a 2p cut isn't really going to make a lot of difference I'm afraid. Good news for those with wealthy parents though as inheritance tax threshold will raise by £65,000 by 2010.

Ok back to work for me...

The Chancellor's strategy is "if something doesn't work, do more of it until it does".

You're assuming the plan is to get people to drive cleaner cars then yeah, its not working.

On the other hand, if you think the plan is to get more money, its working pretty well...

    Maybe I'm just cynical?

inheritance tax is a joke and needs to be scrapped. considering one third of all detatched properties are above the inheritance tax threshold.

Has anyone noticed the funny thing Gordon Brown does with his mouth after every sentence?

Look out for it next time, he makes a funny face whenever he stops for breath its hilarious.

I'm really surprised I've not seen anyone on tv slegg him for this yet.

I've seen Rory Bremner mimicing that particular facial thing quite well.

The almost 100% increase in road tax for big engined cars was inevitable. Generally if people can afford to fuel, maintain and insure a Range Rover (or similar) then they can afford an extra £200 a year for the privilege of driving around in a small tank. (Yes, there will be exceptions, enthusiasts etc, but I did say "in general")

The cost of keeping any car on the road is going to continue to spiral, environmental and congestion problems will pretty much guarantee that.

Funny enough, I've seen just about every impressionist on tv, as well as some non-impressionists, sleg him for it.

Don't tell me, you don't watch tv...

My tv has become both my second monitor and my computer speakers so I keep missing every thing.
