howdy, does there much of a crowd at these gigs? we're playing with the greeters in may, and ive asked too many questions of the girl that booked us already, dont want to annoy her anymore!ha. just wondering what the venues like though?
  2. avatar huggy baps
good venue, but like any other gig it depends on the bands...so get yer promo going!! the more you help out, the better the crowd!
  3. avatar Speed Demon
I've enjoyed every gig I've played in the Pavilion. There's something about the ambience of the place that just feels "nice".

Most times I've been there, either playing or listening, there's been a fair-sized crowd. More than you'd expect for somewhere out of the city centre. As Sean says though - like all gigs, get the word out and bring friends and family! It's better when it's full.

The Greeters look forward to meeting you in May. :D

    probably the joint best bar in belfast with Laverys!!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

The Pavilion is the greatest place in the world.
Uh oh.. here comes the hyperbole Police.. I'm gettin taken to Exageration Jail.. No but seriously - The Pavilions class - lovely atmosphere about it whether it's empty or packed.

However outside isn't always the friendliest. My mates sister got punched in the face by a bloke because she "looked like a taig"

That's not good. Although I've played in the Pavilion about 12 times with my band and there's [i:d58fd97926]never[/i:d58fd97926] been any trouble like that thankfully. (touch wood) But - there's as[i:d58fd97926][/i:d58fd97926]sholes like that EVERYWHERE i suppose - So don't be put off the Pavilion everyone! Really. Sh[i:d58fd97926][/i:d58fd97926]t like that happens everywhere and the Pavilion [i:d58fd97926]is[/i:d58fd97926] a nice place.

The Pavilion is a nice place, truly versatile, but the problem is that people can't always be arsed coming over to the ormeau, so promotion is simply essential.

Oh absolutely. I love the place I.ve just had a few bad Ormeau Road experiences but you're right it shouldn't put anyone off.

I'm very particular about venues and how comfortable I am playing in them, but the Pavilion is a truly great place to play. Very cosy and a lovely atmosphere any time I've been there, either playing or watching. Enjoy.

That's terrible. I am very surprised. I have lived just down from the Pavilion for five years and have found it to be pretty safe and laid back at any time of the day or night.

Whereas, when I lived off the Dublin Road it was like a vision of dante's descent into hell every weekend..

There was actually a Uni of Ulster report a couple of years ago that concluded Ballynafeigh was the best place to live in NI, due to its social mix and general ambience.

Guess, the incident above shows you get scum everywhere...

The pavilion is a great bar - friendly staff, interesting gigs and the sound qiuality is normally spot on

Probably Macs fault as the Pavilion is his second home - but yeah - brill sound - Thanks Mac!!

I have a lot of time for the Pavillion. Played a gig there a while back and it was very good. Friendly crowd and staff etc. Even though I was completely out of line musically with the crowd and all the other bands that were playing!
  14. avatar icedcoffee
having grown up on the ormeau road I was very pleasantly surprised to find out what goes on in a bar so close to my home. Its a great place and always draws the best crowds.
  15. avatar Dirty Stevie Grizz
a bad night in the Pavillion is a very rare thing in my experience
  16. avatar thefatson
Every time I've been in the pavillion its been good, played there twice, gigs with Mac doing sound are always a bonus.
Still haven't gotten around to bop yestrum but the masks and percussion look like a good bit of craic.
You can't blame a venue for morons punching you in the face.
  17. avatar campfiredisco
feck, cheers for all the replies. looking forward to it anyway now hi!! mr. speed demon are you part of The Greeters?? loving the fact that theyre the other band, we kinda fit their style, plus one of the few bands we're supporting that actually replied to me hello message!! Should be a great night hi, ive loads of mates up round belfast at uni, a few apparently five minutes away from the venue, so we're hoping we can get a decent bitta supposrt down/up, i dont know whih way! Cheers again folks!

The crowd in the Pavilion always depends on how much work goes into promoting it. Played my first gig with my band in there to about 10 people (all friends we'd brought with us). Second time around, however, did as much promotion as I could afford to it and had the biggest crowd we've ever played to.
  20. avatar Danny McCormack
Can anyone tell me - What size crowd does it hold? Just curious
  21. avatar niallgraham
The pavilion holds about as many as upstairs in Auntie Annies or Laverys bunker. 100 people max capacity perhaps?
  22. avatar Gogs
AA and the Bunker both hold about 250, surely. I'd guess the Pavilion is maybe a little smaller but not much.
  23. avatar gregz
    bunker live nights bout 300
    bunker club nights about 400
    pavilion middle 180
    pavilion top 200
  24. avatar Iso9
i like the pavilion. 1am closing stops us using it much sadly.
  25. avatar Ric_vdb
sound wise, the pavillion is usually spot on and clear as a bell. saw mantic there recently, what a show like. I found it to be relaxed, and generally a nice place to be :D !
  26. avatar gregz
Thats the only draw back with the Pavilion being in a residential area we can't get the 2am entertainment, an still no sign of a change in the law.
