At the risk of actually being useful, don't get an Apple TV.

It's just not useful for anyone who would be using it to play TV shows downloaded from Bittorrent for example.

It only plays mp4 and h264 format video that is in your iTunes library on another computer on your network.

Also, there is no way ro playback or record live tv on it. Its a bit of a disappointment to be honest.

On the other hand, I love my iPod. It, combined with iTunes, is a great way to fill your ilfe with music, podcasts, wee videos and the like.

To be honest it is a bit of a dissapointment. I had been thinking of investing in a new video ipod as i have a nano at the minute. What ever happened to gadgets that made your life better?

Yea Apple came to my Uni a few weeks back to give us Comp Sci students a talk about working for them. They'll continue to roll out a new OS every year and "pretty much all of our current iPods will be obsolete in the next 12 months". They also referred to big Steve as a bleeding heart liberal

I thought the iPhone *is* the 6th gen iPod? It's only a matter of time before they ramp up the capacity on it.

I rather like my gp2x and as you're rather nerdy Steve I think you would like it too. Basically a Linux handheld that plays divx, mp3s, MAME, anything you can code it to do. Lots of OSS constantly coming out for it. I don't get the time to use it as much as I would like so it ends up being an mp3 player more often that not.

I make phone calls with my phone, I take pictures with my camera, and I watch TV on my TV.

Admittedly, I have two PDAs sitting on the desk here, one Windows, one Linux. But the Windows one is my car GPS and the Linux one was a €50 impulse buy. Oh. I suppose that means I [u:386c7a53dc]am[/u:386c7a53dc] slightly susceptible to gadgets.

GP2X doesn't take pictures or make phone calls. Nice to watch films on the train though, but giggling like an idiot at Anchorman during rush hour can make you look rather foolish.

You can turn a disposable camera into a tazer rather easily...

i think the new microsoft yune looks cool - better and cheaper than a video ipod and it being microsoft will probably play most formats out of the box (cue microsoft are evil debate). a 30gig one is around £130.

I think the Zune may already be dead inthe water, due in no small part to Microsoft's complete inability to market anything that isn't an OS.

In 2 years they'll be forgotten.

While I agree the Zune is dead already, Microsoft did pretty well with the XBox

    Content leads gaming hardware everytime.

You think the 360 would have done so well if it had no good games to showcase it.

Microsoft may have had help in shifting it, no?

    Sonos music system sounds excellent:

Well, that helped of course, but it was the first of the next gen consoles, so anything running on it was going to look better than the current batch. Paying off all the magazine reviewers probably helped too.

The current Vista "WOW" campaign is a total piece of shit though. Maybe they just don't market anything very well.

Craig, as you buy and sell more times in one week than i've had hot dinners, I'd suggest Lego.

It kept me entertained for years. That and the first drawer in our kitchen....that drawer coupled with my old man's garage presented a multitude of reworkable toys and gadgets. :smt032

You're a guitarist man, use your imagination. :D

You seem to know alot about me..... :?

Yeah tempted to indulge myself with the profits off my various little dealings....the gp2x looks pretty good. Seen it on a couple of sites.

Very dissappointed with apple tv, never read up on it and had assumed you would be apple to pause live tv etc - such a stupid idea to make it without that feature.

    Roll on the apple iphone

An entirely Lo-Tech gadget this one, but I was very happy to spy the little fold-away Stagg guitar stands I saw in Matchetts the other day.

    [img:5e5a093f18]http://www.staggmusic.com/images/small/15007.jpg[/img:5e5a093f18]

Pictures too tiny to see well, but it folds to a wee flat thing about 10" long, which, unlike most stands will fit in your pedal case, gig bag, pocket, back of amp etc.

If like me you are forever leaving stands behind at gigs cause they just don't *fit* anywhere then you'll appreciate this wee beasty.

    They're £6.99 too :)
