(EDIT: oh, sorry, yes it's expensive magic beans "Sonikdub uploads music into seven music stores including itunes, Vodafone and the 3music store for a flat non exclusive fee of 495 euro; by staying non exclusive the power is finally put back into the hands of the musicians. [quote:e3f368357f]"Revolutionary New record label
    SONIKDUB
    www.sonikdub.com <http://www.sonikdub.com/>
The first open source record label of its kind in the world which will open the floodgates for unsigned artists to launch in Ireland and the UK April 2007

Sonikdub is a revolutionary new record label that empowers unsigned artists to independently release their music through an open source matrix, where the artist keeps all monies earned and valuable copyrights.

The music industry is changing and Sonikdub is embracing the changes with this revolutionary concept. For too long the music charts have been dominated by designer boy/girl bands, and pop manufactured indie music, there are thousands of unsigned acts in Ireland producing powerful music without a platform to help them succeed.

At Sonikdub there is no A&R policy or music contracts to sign, the label accepts music from anyone and everyone across all genres. Musicians can sell their songs via SMS text from mobile phones or online advance from music stores. All sales are recognised and reported to the official download charts both in Ireland and the UK. If an unsigned artist/band works hard enough promoting themselves offline, they can achieve a top 40 chart ranking.

Sonikdub uploads music into seven music stores including itunes, Vodafone and the 3music store for a flat non exclusive fee of 495 euro; by staying non exclusive the power is finally put back into the hands of the musicians. The company makes its revenue from volume administration.

The label also offers very low cost cd replication, marketing, publicity, music video and a range of other services

Sonikdub is creating a huge buzz within the music industry and on the streets in Ireland and the UK. The implications are clear this label has the potential to alter music history, giving the opportunity to grassroots unsigned musicians to level the playing field. The major labels see Sonikdub as a developing platform, industry managers are using the system to road test their new stars.

Sonikdub are already working with three unsigned new acts who will release singles on Friday April 27 th
The Last Tycoons - "Loving Arms"
    The Show - "Chopping Wood"
Identity Parade - "One for the Road"

These three acts will perform at Crawdaddy in Dublin on Tuesday May 1st please contact us if you wish to be included on the media guest list ( info@sonikdub.com <mailto:info@sonikdub.com>)

Look out for our music store sonik pollen, launching 1st week of April 2007. If you would like to run competitions where we upload the winners for free, then please contact us for more information.

[quote:c77182d7ab]hello my name is denver// ceo of sonikdub.com
i am trying to respond to your forum guys which i found interesting. anyway you guys also do not have your facts right of which if i may/will correct you. the difference between tunecore & sonikdub is that we are a record label based here in europe/tunecore are an usa company.we also offer advance online sales & also sms advance pre sales via text. the sales reporting that we do is done right, we report to the occ & chart track plus other complilers. we also have the lowest industry rates for cd dvd replication in europe, unlike tunecore who do not issue isrc, we do & we also generate upc barcodes with our record label prefix, i could go on and list more, but again the digital issue is a confusing one for most bands who do not understand the complex rules & regulations. client who hop onboard with us can pick up the phone and talk to someone, as opposed the the online only process elsewhere, so bands beware, also the upload price has now been altered to 250 euro vat inc, which puts you into ten stores, itunes japan/usa/canada, europe/vodafone /3music etc// the buyer beware please// if you do this process over seas as the usa markrt is very very different than europe, as well as a different time zone, even the biz administration is not the same. we upload a b2b package 35 countries 150 music stores worldwide for other labels, we are also seen as a developing label for the majors & indies, sonikdub wants to help band s to get seen and heard, please look at our website that will also change its color scheme very soon.if you like i want to mail you some cd samples of our products for unsigned bands, they paided 899 euro vat inc for 1000 units, as you are in uk territory you save with the conversion from GBP. why am i taking this time to send this email? its because i care about great music not being heard. the group of companies behind this label are responsable for artic monkeys/niz lopi //tho thorpe & sandi thom plus many others, who usd the same tech to forward their careers. its easy to be negative/ please be positive about your craft & what you claim that you think you know about this music biz. tunecore only does a fraction of the services we offer, they out source everything from a ftp platform, so the buyer beware. again we have reduced the costs down to 250 vat inc, but we also handle in human source real time complex biz administration for artists bands etc, so that you can focus on the music.we also introduce bands to film makers as a free service so that low cost music videos can be put out there, i would love to here your comments
call me if you like 00 44 207 019 9508 denver is my name/ i want to set you guys straight on a few issues if i may, and give you advice. from my own career i gave that up to do this, my ex band mates are in platinum bands in the usa, so i gave up a alot my freinds, anyway great weekend, want to say more but give us a buzz/the 250 price includes so much complex back end admin which tune core does not do, also coming thru our system can put you into the charts if you promote yourselves hard enough, with tunecore they you are left in the dark with so much unsaid, and besides the language of what they say is for the usa market//its a diff system here/time will tell/finally all artists both here and uk coming thru us are registered via mcps & imro, etc/please let me explain more so that you get the full and bigger picture, i have been in this game for over 25 years with a lot of music industry experience,

I don't even know what it means

To be fair, Tunecore's service is almost non-existant, and they completely failed to add any meta-data to any of our pages on i-tunes, napster rhapsody etc. so there are just blank pages with the mp3's on them, and I wouldn't mind paying another few quid to someone who could sort all that out. But even 250 Euro's (a 50% price drop!) is too steep relatively speaking.

    My first post!
I’m in a band and rang up SONiKDUB a week ago just to see how they work taking into account what you guys where saying. There was somebody at the end of the line talking me through everything unlike Tunecore who I emailed a week and a half ago and have yet to respond to me. Go figure.
For unsigned bands and artists we get to keep our copyrights and royalties with SONiKDUB. I paid €1800 for 1000 CD’s last year, but with SONiKDUB I get 1000 cd’s for €999 that’s inclusive of V.A.T . Not only do I get 1000 CD’s for that price but FREE upload into 10 music stores!!!!!!!Magic beans? I think so!
That same day they sent me a promo CD in a card wallet the kind that record labels produce for artists so as I could see how professional there product was.I didn’t even have to sign a single thing. ANY artist can get into the charts without even having a record deal!! How good is that?! This label is gonna change everything for us unsigned folks forever - the corporate companies are going to s**t themselves!!
Do ya’s care about your music?! Or just how we spell/paragraph our reply's. Sad. Maybe you don’t care bout your music, and that’s what all this negativity is about. If you do or don’t I don’t really give a s**t, I’m already in process with SONiKDUB. It’s all about taking a chance, it’s right there in front of you and in this business you have to grab every opportunity ya’s can get RIGHT !!. At the end of the day think whatever you want.

Don’t kick it before you try it as the saying goes!!!!!!!!!!

    [quote:87b577434a]Or just how we spell/paragraph our reply's.[/quote:87b577434a]

Are you in a band that used sonicdub or are you sonicdub? The 'we' would suggest you have something to do with sonicdub, but maybe that was just a typo. Don't knock it til you've tried it? Don't try it til you've researched it I would say, especially when it involves shelling out money. Thats just common sense.
  17. avatar Box Marked Commie
    This is ANTO again.

Seriously big lad. What is the craic with this?

Businesses compete on price and the quality of the service they provide. As a potential customer I am obviously entitled to ask why your service is better than Tunecore's, since your's is MUCH more expensive. I'd do the same for any goods or services I spend my money on - and I tell you this no matter what it is if I got the sort of response you have provided there is no way on earth I would consider it as an option.

Please take these two short suggestions and give them due consideration:
    - Lay off the coke
    - Take a night class in business communication

just tryin to help you guys out with your negativity on this perfectly good business idea.

'WE' was used in the context of myself not a part off sonikdub and the ceo from SONiKDUB and how sad you guys are focusing on our spelling other than what the comment is about, maybe you should read it again and stop being so smart or at least trying to be. Tunecore or SONiKDUB? SONiKDUB are offering 1000 CD's for €999 along with FREE FREE FREE upload into 10 different music stores you then get a top 40chart ranking. Tunecore don't do chart ranking thay get you a sale wup-d-do. Get your facts right! What success have you had?

This label has a concept thats long overdue. full stop. Times are-a-changin, get your ass out of the 80's and 90's and look at the way the music industry is evolving.

'So stay or leave if you want to'
thats what it states on the site. You have the freedom to come and go if you like as with researching the label all you like. It's also like the freedom of speech you have your opinions I have mine.

Weird. An Open Source blog on znet linking to the tinpotoperation web site? What is the world coming to?
  22. avatar tinpot anto
Big lad it is a good business idea but here's the way it is.

*tunecore provide ISRC and UPC barcodes and respond quickly to enquiries by email.
*All tracks sold on i-tunes/napster/rhapsody etc are submitted to the charts anyway, nothing to do with the aggregator.
*I can get 1000 good quality CD's pressed and delivered for £600-700 from www.mediasourcing.com or www.dupadisc.ie
*Tunecore give me back 100% of the cut from i-tunes etc.
*Tunecore cost me $7.50 not £250

Like I said in other threads they are not perfect by any means, but it's cheap in-cheap out. I cannot see, however what SonikDUB are doing that warrants me giving them an extra £245, when they are taking a 30% cut (10% higher than most other aggregators)

I would perhaps even hazard a bet that Sonikdub are just using Tunecore's service to upload the music anyway, and pocketing the difference.

So it is a great business idea, but there are a lot of other companies doing it already, not berating potential customers on the internet, doing it MUCH MUCH cheaper and acting in a professional manner.

    [img:e050d09bb7]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b2/Duncanbannatyne-dragons-den.jpg[/img:e050d09bb7]

    [i:e050d09bb7]And fir that reason aloone, I'm oot[/i:e050d09bb7]

Also just to add that Tunecore also offer CD manufacture at $1100 US for 1000 units. Say roughly £650? But they don't deliver outside the US.

  30. avatar tinpot anto
Nope, get the CD's from www.dupadisc.ie or www.mediasourcing.com for example, for cheaper, and with a hearty recommendation from many people on here.

Then upload through one of the well established aggregators like Tunecore and AWAL rather than taking a risk on these guys who appear to feel that slabbering at their potential customers in poor grammar on random websites is the height of professional business practice.

Then new poster appears who happens to be one of their mates. 'Cleverly' also makes a post on the Glasto thread, such is the level of his deep cover. Doesn't big up Sonikdub immediately but 'subtley' highlights one of the 'shortcomings' of Tunecore. Weeping, creeping, beeping Christ.

    My first post!
Hey guys, I know this post is old but I am the Sr. VP at TuneCore and I wanted to set the record straight on some of what was written above.

    1) TuneCore has always provided free ISRCs, UPCs and Barcodes.

    2) An album can't go live as just MP3s with no MetaData, no store would accept anything like that. I even did research for that particular album and it's showing accurately in all stores. but I would love the chance for tinpot anto or anyone that has questions to email us at support@tunecore.com or email me directly at Laurelin@tunecore.com.

    3) Lastly, all the TuneCore contact info is on our contact page at http://www.tunecore.com/contact and if you call I'm usually the one that answers, I like talking on the phone I guess  so anyone can talk to me during our business hours, or usually after because I work so late

TuneCore is continuing to grow leaps and bounds and we're excited that we're adding more and more stores, like different cell phone providers specifically in the UK. True we're not based in the UK so our CD manufacturing for the time being is cheapest only to US residents but we're working on that too.

Anyway just thought I'd clear it up. I love any service that puts the power in the hands of the artist so more power to sonikdub who are following a similar model to the TuneCore model
