    hey guys

they were a band from belfast who seemed destined to make it but failed, anyone know what they are up2 now?

I know the lead singer still plays around under the name the dead handsomes, or the electric bananas or something! The other main player in the band was called Pat Gribbon...anyone remember them?

Their main hit was 'Broken Land' and was the most played song on radio 1 in 1988

Pat Gribbon also plays in the Electric Bananas AKA the Dead Hansomes with Terry Sharpe.

Terry does a bit of A&R, I think he's doing some things for The Lingus.

Incidentally, the Adventures reformed to play Springhill festival in 1997, at which Sinn Fein official Danny Morrison sang with them, an impromptu version of Life During Wartime by the Talking Heads.

    Little known fact.

Apart from the thousand or so people there, although most of them probably don't remember, didn't know the song, or had no idea who was singing what.

    This ain't no party
    This ain't no disco
    This ain't no fooling around

Is Pat Gribbon not Brian Kennedy's guitarist, also the singer is in cover band The Dead Handsomes?

he seems to have mistakenly put his myspace on this thread too.
maybe its the same short term memory loss that makes Paris Hilton forget to put her kecks on?

well, y'know how it is - it's easy to make a slip of a finger while in a posting frenzy, and before you know it you've stuck your myspace URL up there, with the clicky linky thing and all...

He's obviously a rampant scenewrecker, and I demand his myspace URL be added to the swear filter at once!

Gerard, do you really need to start pointless threads just to promote your myspace?

Whats wrong with using your website as a signature on a music forum?

We're not involved with Terry anymore. Great guy though.

Actually we supported the reformed Adventures twice at the Empire last year - both gigs sold-out I might add, I guess they still have a loyal fanbase.

ever see the lead singer in the bananarama video?think he used to go out with one of them?

Terry Sharpe is an utterly sound punter, plus Broken Land is a pretty cracker song, and until Snow Patrol was the only Number 1 record from an NI band.
  16. avatar I'mDead
Was D:Ream's 'Things Can Only Get Better' not also a number 1?
  17. avatar tinpot anto
Aye I just guessed Snow Patrol but it was the only one for a very long time :)
  18. avatar domhnall
It wasn't number one, it was number 20?

    What Broken Land or D:Ream?

Brokan Land is a class song. I heard somewhere a while abck that it was the most played song on British Radio in the year on 1987? Is this true?
  20. avatar domhnall
Broken Land was number 20. It was the most played song on Radio One in 1988.

Pat Gribben (my brother's wife's da) still has a publishing deal with BMG(?) and is still managed by Simon Fuller who originally managed the whole band (and also Annie Lenox, the spice girls etc).

Pat and Terry still gig around with various cover bands etc, and the odd reformation of the Adventures, plus more direct muso stuff.

On a trivia note, Pat's daughter Claire had to get permission to cut P5 early as she had to go on a world tour with The Adventures and Tears for Fears. How cool is that for a seven year old?

Pat Gribben is one the best songwriters to ever have come out of this part of the world.

I fvckin loved the Adventures as a kid and still have all their stuff.

    But Smitty, they are WESTIES!!!!

    *shock horror*

there is nothing, repeat [size=24:d2f7cb96ca]NOTHING[/size:d2f7cb96ca] cool about Tears For Fears, no matter what the circumstances.
