wandering round town on my lunch, i noticed signs outside the bbc shop saying it was being threatened with closure. between a brother who's a dr. who obsessive, a boyfriend who loves clement and le frenais, alan bleasdale etc and a step-dad who's just plain impossible to buy for; i'm absolutely screwed for presents if it shuts!
they've got a petition in the shop to sign if you're bothered.
We have a BBC Shop here in Brighton too.
It's usually quite handy for getting the latest Dr Who DVD release if Amazon is doing its usual "next working day delivery" which mysteriously lasts 10 days.
Where will people get their Sylvestor McCoy 5.1 remixes now?!?
was on the news last week - as far as i was aware, it was a done deal. apparently the shop doesn't make money and all items available in shop, plus a whole lot more, are on their website.
I've been in it a few times and anything I've been interested in has always been cheaper elsewhere. *shrug*
In a mild spasm of culture, I did get a 3-for-1 deal on the Beeb's 1978 Shakespeare DVDs there last year. I even watched them and everything. Other than that, it's a bit pricier and obviously less varied than Tinternets.
I dont know how it survived the 80s to be honest. It's a bit of a relic, like. Sad but true.
yesbut, whilst it may be exceptionally luddite of me, i actually prefer to walk into an actual shop, browse physical objects and buy 'em; rather than shopping online. and, weirdly, i've always found the shop to be equal in price or cheaper than anything i've been in to buy *shrugs*. ah well, thought i'd mention it anyway.
I think they are all closing. A shame cos there's something so reassuring and cosy about half an hour browsing in there. But it's just moving to online, innit.
Motherfu-ckers. I love that shop. Where am I going to buy my Michaelangelo and history DVDs from now (before some tard points out the internet, I don't have a credit card as I don't believe in usary).

I don't have a credit card and regularly buy off t'interweb. Use Maestro/Switch/whatever it's called.
